I have a 1999 Ranger (Kingcab XLT 3L) that came with a Cass./CD combo stereo. The CD player has some problems. I am going to pick up a cheap factory used one. What years and other Fords can I salvage this from?

I see some CD only versions that look nicer than mine in other fords but not sure if I can just pull and plug in which is what I am looking for.

Thanks

Obviously any from that generation, might need harness adapters, but I think, any from 3rd gen up will likely work. But if you want cd your more likely to find one from a newer gen anyways. Have you considered aftermarket? What's a stock radio run these days?

My aftermarket came out to 150 with harness, install kit, radio removal tools etc and it has literally everything like Bluetooth, HD radio, USB front input, front aux, iPod control, preamps for speakers and subs, cd, etc and it works great...funny thing is I've only ever used the Bluetooth with my smartphone lol haven't had a use due anything else since I have a 32GB card plus streaming music :D:thumbup:

I'm looking at $20 range so thats why I was asking about the years. Older style factory units are cheap and I don't need anything fancy.

Well the plugs are the same from my factory Mach mp3 unit that came out of my '02 Ranger compared to the factory cassette deck that came out of my dads old '00 F-150. So I would say that anything for a similar year vehicle with the same size radio (double DIN) should work. Explorer, Ranger, F-150, Excursion, Expedition etc, etc...if I had to guess the year range, I would say probably any of those vehicles from '97-'03.

Factory double din ones will fit, I'm going to say that most of the time the plugs should be the same unless you get into the premium sound vs. non premium sound package trucks, then it gets a little dicey. I've seen some premium sound trucks have regular sound plugs as well, but not the other way around.

Single din units will fit with an aftermarket mounting kit, but you may have to adapt the wiring. Because of the standardized sizing, it is possible to take a head unit out of a non-ford vehicle and put it into a Ranger. You'll just have to splice wires to make it work.

I've seen them on Craigslist on a regular basis for $50 or less

I have been looking for one that is OEM plug and play (from any Ford/Lincoln/Mercury) that uses illumination other that the factory green? Any suggestions?

Bump. Prefer a white illumination

i've never seen any with white illumination might be better off going after market and get a wiring harness
