What Explorer Seats for Ranger

I just tried putting a 60/40 split from a 99 ext cab into my 94 reg. cab. Didn't work. The rail bolt pattern is 2" shorter on the 99 where it mounts to the truck. I couldn't bolt the seats to my rails because the whole underside of the seat where the rails would bolt onto is different.

These are 2002 Leather Explorer seats installed in my 1996. I removed the seat tracks all together and hard mounted them to the lower half of the 1996 Ranger tracks. I measured and tested fitted the Driver seat to my driving comfort! Its a small cab so I don't need them to adjust! Then I sat the passenger seat all the way back.

i know this thread is old, but i just wanted to add that i installed 98 mountaineer seats, which are the same as explorer seats except for the name logo imbossed on them, they bolted right up with the exception that 2 of the mounting bracket bolt holes had to be drilled open wider, so that the seats could match up to the bolts and be mounted.

Also I would like to add that the mountaineer seats were all powered, and i spliced into the power wire/ ground under the drivers seat carpet, and WALLA. I have all full use of the power seats including lumbar. Just info for those who still may be trying.

apparently there is differences in the extended or standard cab ranger seats over the years. my 98 extended cab does not have removable tracks, the recline/tilt forward mechanism are all integrated into the tracks, i could not remove my tracks as some of you are saying. (I destroyed my passenger seat trying). I tried swapping with a 97 reg cab and found that the floor contour is different and the tracks on that truck were removable. Luckily I found a set of power explorer seats at a junk yard that happen to have the same bolt pattern and floor contour. the only thing that I needed to do was connect a power and ground wire to the electric seats. As far as i know the tracks do not come off of the electric seats.

I bought some 99 mountaineer seats, they bolted right in but I couldn't get the seat belt rails to fit right. How did you get that bolted up?

Hi and what do you mean you could not get the seatbelt rail to fit? If you are saying that you are trying to use the seatbelt form the mountaineer seats, than thats a NO NO, you have to swap you pretentioners from the ranger over to the mountaneer seats, and it will work. pretentioners are the seatbelt fyi.

No, I didn't try swapping belts. I noticed you have a 2001 (mine's a 94) so it might be different, but the rails or tensioners or whatever it's called that the belt buckle slides on, wouldn't attach properly to the mountaineer seats. I could get the back bolt attached, but the front was spaced too far on the seat rail to line up.

I put a 60/40 bench out of an extended cab 02 ranger into my reg cab 97...it was as simple as unbolting the seat tracks from the 02 seats and bolting my 97 seat tracks to them. The 02 seats had unthreaded bosses in them that the 97 tracks lined up to. The stock bolts are a self threading style of bolt and then will run right in.

i put 2005 leather sport trac seats in my 95 ext cab and they bolted right up. wiring them was a bit of a pain in the ass tho

Have any of you tried to put full size seats in a ranger? like out of a F-150 or Expedition?

I found some cheap leather captain chairs out of a 97 Expedition. I have a '98 Reg Cab Ranger with shot seats. I am not afraid of how they will bolt up. I am afraid of their size in my reg cab.

They want $50. Is that a good deal?

That is good info. Thanks man! I think i am just going to hunt down Explorer seats then.

What do you do with the connection under the seats for the AirBag light?

OK guys I know I'm a bit late to this party but I have a question, hoping you can help with advice before I start down this road.
I have a 2004 Ranger FX4 level II, it has buckets but they are cloth and I want to trade them out for the leather seats. Do any of the later model Explorer {2000-2003} seats fit, what modifications do I need to make? any info would be great.
