They make around 245hp and 15 psi on pump gas is totally doable. That'll double the stock hp give or take a bit. 21 psi will triple stock power. All assuming the turbo and fuel are right.

Boosting to 14.7psi will double what a motor will make naturally aspirated.. to triple N/A output a motor would need a c-hair under 30lbs.

Good to know that those are stout motors though.. 5cyls are cool just because they're such an odd duck. Didn't GM get the motor from Volvo or something? They do sound pretty wild.

FMS

Amazon lost the FMS one, I ended up ordering a aftermarket one that I think had to come from China. It was down for a month before I got the part to fix it.

Gah, hate waiting for crap like that lol. Do you have a hobby shop close to you? I'm relatively sure the crawler I put that Maisto 2dr bronco body on was an FMS.. or mabey it was an ECX? Relatively sure they're pretty much identical either way.. "white box" trucks more or less.

The Mazda B series had the REPU that came with a 13B from the factory for a few years while they were also being rebadged as the Ford Courier. I don't think the factory ever put the rotary in the Ford, but that would probably be a bolt in swap for a Courier if you could find a wrecked REPU. And I don't remember which channel it was but I saw a YouTube video of a 12A swapped Ranger a few years ago.

Yeah.. stock idle honestly doesn't sound too cool lol. Anything that's been ported though.. either a street port or a race port.. idle sounds wayyy gnarlier.

Pretty close to a mildly juiced up 2 stroke snowmobile imo.. and that's a sound that could put me to sleep I really miss riding sleds. Shame we don't get enough snow up here to make owning one worth it anymore..

I do get to play with some cool stuff here and there that I wouldn't pay for... like the 600hp LT4, we're working on a big block around the 9L range, we have this compressor engine that's technically a 14.6L but it's only running on half so it's a 7.3L 4 cylinder...

not big into forced induction but 21psi sounds like a lot for a engine that size i could definetly be wrong being that as i said i dont know a lot about it would love to learn though

You're right, real world numbers are gonna be a little lower thanks to things not being 100% efficient.. but the formula is generally close enough where you'll get a decent estimate of what you'll be making with X amount of boost.

How much boost a motor will deal with is much more about the materials/construction of the internals and less about how much it displaces or how many cylinders it has. Fuel grade, quality of the tune, and at what rpm the boost comes in are also big factors.

For example.. Your best chance for success with boosting an n/a motor that has cast pistons/rods/etc. is to have the overwhelming majority of your boost start to hit AFTER the motor would have hit its peak torque number without the boost.

Why? During peak torque is when cylinder pressures are at their highest. If you all of a sudden add a boatload more cylinder pressure (via boost) when cylinder pressures are already at their engineered maximum... Your just begging to "lift" a head AT BEST... (too much upward pressure on the head bolts/studs will stretch them right out, leading to a blown head gasket at minimum) Worse than that would be that you suddenly have ventilation holes created in the tops of your pistons.. or you have a con-rod create an inspection window in the side of the block.

My bronco (a mere 2.3l 4 banger) will feed itself 21lbs if I choose to fill it with 93... Ive only ever put 87 in it though so I think the maximum amount of boost I've seen on the dash is like 16-18 lbs.

Which is rather exceptional even for OEM let alone a modified system.

My old Laser only ran about 11psi out of the box, factory everything on a 2.0 4G63T.

Back to the original topic: I wouldn't swap any engine- or transmission or rear end- without rebuilding it. My first choice would be a 302 based 331 stroker with good heads, Duraspark and a Holley carburetor. I've had a lot of injected cars and trucks, including 2 EcoBoost Escapes that gave me good service but a quick stab of the throttle results in a lag before the revs increase. A quick stab of the throttle in my Mustang or Ranger results in tire spin.
If you want something more modern the 2.3 EcoBoost from a Mustang or current Ranger would be hard to bet.
