What does a ranger bed weigh?

Well my guess was way off.

I would suggest oak if you can afford it and find it in the sizes you need over pressure treated pine. That is traditionally what flatbeds are made of. The wood is often treated with used motor oil to preserve the wood. Even better and more traditional is rough cut oak but that might be pushing it.

I'm undecided right now on what to deck it with.. This is more a balancing act of final weight vs. Price than I thought it would be lol.

I'm gonna have to call the steel yard tomorrow, first to see if their essential enough to be open, and then to get a rough estimate on price.

Last time I bought any steel it was 1.25" 16ga square for a go-kart, and it was just over a buck a foot. This was 3-4 years ago. I'm hoping I don't have a heart attack when I get the price this time.

I used pine for the deck on mine twice. First time I just left it bare, when I pulled it off to redo it I sealed the new wood with Thompson's water seal. Deck #1 was on there for about 8 years and was still in good shape after sitting outside all that time, but I wanted to rebuild some of the supports underneath and had to change sizes on some of the boards so I started over and redid all of it.

The steel part is built out of 1x3 and some 1x4 and 1x1 pieces here and there. I would guess it weighs somewhere around 250lbs plus whatever the wood weighs.

That looks awesome. Flip-up license holder?

Has anyone tried trex on a flatbed? Always seemed like an ideal choice to me for synthetics.

Thanks, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It's parked in the shop all the time so it has held up really well. Yep, flip up license plate, my trailer light plug is under it.

I thought about it but the price vs good old pine 2x6s was absurd. Maybe someday I'll do it if I run across a good deal on Trex.
