What Does “Custom” Mean on a Ranger Badge?

I never liked that term on a vehicle...sounded too much like "Cussed 'Em" and I've cussed em enough over the years>>>

Funny, though, when my Ranger died on the road it always elicited my deepest fatherly feelings and I ran around to the hood an opened it saying "What's wrong Baby?"

And like many fathers I find that I failed my poor baby by not providing the things a good father would give his child...like oil...a new alternator...a new engine...:)

So the Sort package is a painted grill and bumper? WOW lol. I don't see how paint makes it sporty lol. I guess just another gimmick to get people to spend money. I do like my painted grill and bumper. even though the bumper has more rust holes than the holes cut from the factory lol.

i never realized that base models (at least back in the day) had no headliner. i took mine out because the fabric had seperated bad and a previous owner removed most but not all the fabric. it actually looks better now without a headliner at all then when i first got it and most of the fabric was gone. thought about doing spray-on bedliner on it then putting it back once it dries, but ive come to like the steel inside roof, got a few things with magnets above me now in the middle, great place to have a "remind myself" note posted.

After driving quite a few late 70s fords without headliners or A/C, youll apperciate them on a sunny hot ass day sitting in traffic.

It isn't like a fancier truck with the headliner removed. It is all filled in and smooth, basically a steel headliner. Makes running the wire for the domelight a PITA though.

I keep car show magnets on my ceiling. :icon_thumby:

I think the "Custom" is just the decal glued to the fender. Don't see anything custom about them LOL. Probably a $1,000 option back then which deleted everything and added a "Custom" sticker.

What I find really weird is the rangers with automatic transmissions have an RPM gauge and the 5 speeds do not. Seems like it should be the other way around or at least all of them have RPM gauges. Anyone know why they did this?

Guys that cheaped out on the trans also cheaped out on the guages and vice versa.

They were both extra cost options, the guys that paid for one were more inclined to pay for the other.

That doesn't make sense. I don't see that being the reason.

Guys that wanted a cheap truck got a cheap truck. Transmissions aside generally trucks with tachs are fairly well optioned. Those without are more basic.
