what do y'all think about the focus/mazda3

I would not take one for free. They do nothing for me. I drove both 2010 models yesterday at the Ford dealer near us and the Mazda dealer as well....just plane crap. I don't need a kids tuner car to be...If I am going to buy a new car I think I would pick an SUV with a hatch back, 4 doors, good leg room and I don't need anything more then 160 hp. I drove a new Tuscan this morning at the local Hyundai dealer and I really like it for the price. Very nice riding and it handles well and had pep for when I need it...plus the hatch back I am looking for.

I won't buy a Ford again unless it is a truck...the cars are pure crap and offer nothing that really says spend way too much money on me!!!!! I have owned fast 'stangs from the 70's and 80's and they were better than this crap Ford puts out now. I have driven lots of new Ford 'stangs and the Dodge Challengers and they don't do anything for me. My Hemi cars form the 60's and 70's were real cars years and this new crap is never going to be better.

Computers from hell won't control my life...I will go back to the old cars and just keep them running if I reall need to buy another hot rod.

well the g/f wont drive a hatch, and she sure as hell wont drive a hyundai so i guess thats out of the question!

Lol. And BTW they only have 140hp unless you get an SVT. But I wouldn't get one of the new ones either. I don't really care for the style and they are going to reintroduce the hatch till 2012 and I'm a hatch kinda guy.

I know, I know...I an just tired of the body styles that are coming out in the USA. That Ford Edge is just crap to me....but to some other person it is the cat's meow.....lol. I like the 09 Tuscan looks and the new Tuscan just came out with more hp and the redesigned look and I have driven both the 09 and the 2010...again the manufacturers are changing the looks of the autos. The Ford Escape looked nice until it went to a bit of a square shape as well as the Explorer and some of the Jeep models as well have done that. GAG ME WITH A PITCH FORK!!!!!!!
Every time I see these new little small cars (and a lot of them come with these giant wings that do... NOTHING), I just think of the stupid turner boys who will later be racing them up and down the streets, revving the stupid little motors at the point I hear valve rattle noise and those stupid exhaust systems that should be on a DC10 taking off at an airport....that annoys me real bad.....

focus is a great car. they are styled nice and are peppy. My only beef with them is...I DONT FIT. i'm not fat. just 6'1". wound up buying a new fusion instead with the new baby and all, not much room behind the seat in a focus for that. but they are neat cars and the mazda twin is also a nifty car

I'm 6'6" and I fit into my wifes '08 Focus better than my '02 Ranger.

They are great cars and get very good milage (especially compared to the Ranger). Wifey averages at least 24 in town.

Take a look at the new fiesta as well, that and the mazda 2 share the same platform although the fiesta will have a duratec engine while the mazda 2 will have a japanese engine option (I think, the mazda lit isn't exactly clear). Mazda 3 is an extremely popular car out here in California.

You know, upon reflection I think the Mazda/Ford shared platforms have produced some of the better vehicles of any auto alliance.

fiesta/mazda2 isnt an option. she *needs* something cheaper than that. if she keeps her car another winter, till after she's done with school and working full time again, then maybe she will be able to make payments on something a little more expensive. she's really hoping that her trade in will cover 3/4 the cost of the new (used) car and that she wont have to make payments.

and myself, i really like both the fiesta and the mazda2 but i dont want to make payments at all anyways. ill stick to my escort (yet another mazda/ford joint venture)

Do it. 100K is nothing for those cars. 2.0 is a very good engine.

The only thing to watch out for is coolant leaks. Check around the thermostat housing. The Focus in particular had issues with the plastic housings cracking and leaking. Most of the old crappy ones have failed and been replaced with an updated part that doesn't do it, but it's still something to look at.

the focus/mazda 3 are great little cars. The 2.0L Duratecs are good little engines, and you have the option of its big cousin the 2.3L Duratec in the focus ST or the mazda.

the ones that leak are the 2.0L zetec motors wich were run up through 04. Theyre not bad little engines either.

if either car is properly maintained these things tend to run for the long haul. high mileage isnt an overly big concern.

if your lookin for reading check up the previously mentioned focusfanatics or focaljet.com. i dont have a good mazda one handy though

and just for the record i myself have an 07 focus sedan
