what do y'all think about the focus/mazda3

my g/f has a lincoln ls right now and she hates it. it's huge, sucks gas, rwd... not what she needs. she found a 2005 mazda3 (built on the same platform as the focus) and she's thinking about trading her car in toward the mazda. the only thing about the car that's questionable is the fact that its got almost 100,000 miles on it. its a 2.0 duratec with a 4 speed automatic. other than that, the car looks clean. i was just wondering if there's anything to look out for or something specific to check on first?

My best friend has a 2000 focus with the 2.0 liter and the 4 speed. It's right around 80k miles now, still runs great. I do all the maintenance on it for him and not a whole lot has needed done. I JUST replaced the factory battery this past winter.

Check out the car, as long as everything works as it should I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage.

topher, thanks. like i said everything looks good as far as i can tell. havent seen the car in person but the mileage has made my g/f and her father a little nervous about the car...

Check out www.focusfanatics.com. The Mazda3 has the Duratec engine in it. The same thats in all the 05+ Foci and some of the olders also. Go check out the Duratec section for some more info.

My son has an '04 Focus SVT 5-door. I just drove it for almost a week, and I hated like hell to give it back to him - it's that much fun.

This is his second Focus. That should say something.

sounds like they're good cars, huh? this ones only got the 2.0, so its not gonna be as quick as the focus svt... but i still see lots of potential in it.

focus is a great car. they are styled nice and are peppy. My only beef with them is...I DONT FIT. i'm not fat. just 6'1". wound up buying a new fusion instead with the new baby and all, not much room behind the seat in a focus for that. but they are neat cars and the mazda twin is also a nifty car

I had a 05 ZX5 with a 5 speed and I loved it, I hated it when i had to give it up (Started my own buisness fell under and lost hte car ) Thing was pretty quick and handled awsome. I had the SES package with the sport front suspension I beat several STs with it, the SVT on the other hand, with there 6 speed trannys I couldnt beat those lol but either way the Focus is a great lil car. I miss mine, and FocusFanatics is an awsome website for the focus, when I had mine I was on there all the time. Learned alot from that sight.

They're not bad cars...my neighbor had one that she bought new a few years ago...the only problem she had with it was she kept breaking off the rear-view mirrors on the doors when she backed into her garage...

I recommended she drive in and back out...

this ones only got the 2.0, so its not gonna be as quick as the focus svt...

The SPI, Zetec, SVT, and 2.0 Duratec are all 2.0. Only one thats not is the 2.3 Duratec. But yes the SVT is tuned better, has factory header, VCT, oil squirters, forged internals, and larger intake so it is gonna be faster than the rest.

man, i kinda forgot about this thread. went tuesday after work to look at the mazda, and it had sold on monday... after it sat in that lot for like 2 months. oh well, still looking for sure. shes open to other options but i think she likes the mazda3 more than anything else out there right now. im glad to see that everybody else likes them too. i've seen a few for sale with like 150k miles, i dont know about it though... thats as many miles as my 91 escort!

I would not take one for free. They do nothing for me. I drove both 2010 models yesterday at the Ford dealer near us and the Mazda dealer as well....just plane crap. I don't need a kids tuner car to be...If I am going to buy a new car I think I would pick an SUV with a hatch back, 4 doors, good leg room and I don't need anything more then 160 hp. I drove a new Tuscan this morning at the local Hyundai dealer and I really like it for the price. Very nice riding and it handles well and had pep for when I need it...plus the hatch back I am looking for.

I won't buy a Ford again unless it is a truck...the cars are pure crap and offer nothing that really says spend way too much money on me!!!!! I have owned fast 'stangs from the 70's and 80's and they were better than this crap Ford puts out now. I have driven lots of new Ford 'stangs and the Dodge Challengers and they don't do anything for me. My Hemi cars form the 60's and 70's were real cars years and this new crap is never going to be better.

Computers from hell won't control my life...I will go back to the old cars and just keep them running if I reall need to buy another hot rod.

I drove my buddies Mazda3 to canada and back from tennessee and I really liked it, fun, responsive, pretty good on gas.
