Decided to make a dent in the oak tree my brother has down, gotta keep on it so I have wood for next winter... took the F350 over to get a bed load... was a heaped 8' bed load with no straps so around 1/2 cord or so of unsplit rounds stacked neatly, would have been at least 3 Ranger loads if not 4... could have fit a half dozen more rounds in but the chain on the saw said it was done...

Then we worked on the pivot bearings for the swingarm on his 4 wheeler, one side was down to about 2 rollers so it wasn't good, couldn't get the outer races out so we took some shortcuts and will revisit in the winter when it isn't such a time crunch.

Then lunch for my father in law, good times

Then I got the seal kit for the pellet gun I've been working on, inconveniently I assumed it was the wrong part number (no markings), turns out it's a Crosman 105 made around 1948, takes different seals than the 130 I thought it was but the main one is just an O ring so will try that...

Got the pool filled, built a deck but ran out of energy & dry skies before I could get the steps built. Went to move the truck & it appears that the starter died. So, got one ordered along with cables & a solenoid for good measure. Cant be too upset since it died at home, even if it was in the backyard. Almost 40 years old. Can only hope the next one goes half that distance.

Yesterday I took Truck Norris on its first road trip since the suspension is finished and the alignment is good. It drives just fine. I drove it about 5 hours round trip, and I learned a few things:
  • The truck is a real pleasure to drive. Its simplicity is a joy, and my wife fell asleep in the passenger seat, which is a high compliment.
  • 150 HP with tall gears and a 3.73 rear end is mostly adequate for my needs, but a 2.5 Duratec swap is in my future. I'm not trying to win any races, but a tow hitch on the back of my truck is, let's say, ambitious. A 25% increase in torque would make a solid difference.
  • I can easily out-drive my own headlights. I didn't try to do so, but 65 MPH at night on tree-lined country roads is iffy. KC Daylighters are coming, and I may run a better light relay and wiring for the stock headlights to get a bit more output from them.
  • The truck loves E0 93 gas. It runs nice, and has a bit more power. That said, the A/T's I installed look amazing, but do me no favors in fuel savings. They are a great complement to the new suspension, though. Hard jolts with the last tires are smoothed bumps with these.

We did a sunset cruise to watch dolphins in Galveston last night.

Dolphins at the base of this ship jumping

The rest are just sunset shots. I see dolphins all the time so I didn't take lots of pics but sunset shots while on a boat are not often seen

The ship in the last pic , to the right side, is actually sunken on a sandbar. It's a cargo ship that was made of concrete and was sailed for 30 years, or something like that, till it hit a reef and cracked. They tried to fix it but no fix held so they put it on the sandbar 50 years ago. Crazy

Yesterday.. buried my uncle who passed back in February. Not a blood uncle.. but an uncle in spirit. He was my father's best friend growing up. After Dad died when I was 16 he and his wife and kids kinda swept myself and my mother up under their wings and made us a part of their family.

He raced circle track for decades and taught me a lot about cars.. about empathy and selflessness.. and was an incredible example of a good human being.. he was as quality of a "stand in" father as someone could ever hope for.. especially when I ended up having more years with him than I did my own dad. It's been hard.. almost like losing Dad all over again but.. I'm forever grateful.

I was actually the ONLY person who he allowed to put a Ford in his garage or on his lift 🥲

I'm by no means religious, but I still like to think that Kevin and my dad are back together somewhere getting in allllll the trouble again.

On a much lighter & exciting note.. hammered out a deal for a '97 2.3 4x4 truck. Making the journey to Pittsburgh July 11th/12th to get it 😎 hell yeah 👍🏻

Yesterday I finished assembling the carburetor off my friends Snow Cat groomer for him, dirtiest carb I've ever taken apart. I'll get it back on and adjusted this week but the test drive will have to wait a few months, the cleated tracks would be hard on his lawn.

My daughter sent me pictures of her husband's newest rocket project. I built 18" model rockets in my youth, his projects are a little bigger.

Nice. He must live out west where they have more room to fly them. Our local club is only allowed to go up to 10,000ft.

Little more testing on the truck. Details in my build thread...

I had Thursday and Friday off last week so my youngest kid & I went up to the other other property and did some work. We are building a new door for the mine...it had a wood door on it that my uncle & grandpa built years ago. There was a house full of tweakers across the street and they smashed the door in and were messing around. Kinda funny because it's just a tunnel about 100' long that dead ends in nothing interesting. I figured it would be a good job for my portable welder so we started building a new door out of metal - should last a bit longer than the old wood one and be a lot harder to break into.

My kid wanted to learn how to weld so I had him burn a few 6011 rods before the fuel pump on the welder took a crap. He was begging to run some more so I got the old Century stick welder out and he burned up another dozen or so. He was really getting the hang of it when we quit, definitely a better welder already than when I was 11!

I wish I had more than a weekend to make the trip, I'd see about hooking up with some of you guys for a drink and some food. Hell.. even if i only had to get to the Philly area that would open up quite a bit of time.

Gonna be the furthest west I've been since I went to alaska when I was 7 and the furthest south since I was 14. Looking forward to the trip, hoping for a reasonable amount of traffic lol.

We'll be just barely northwest of Pittsburgh on the evening of the 11th. Somewhere areound Leetsdale/Rochester/Beaver, I believe. Not sure the exact restaurant has been decided yet. But if you can make it, say so and we'll let you know.
