What did YOU do today?

i have an original atari too!!!!! and a bunch of games, frogger, pacman, some safari game that i think is supposed to be indiana jones, asteroids, and some others. got it at the good will years ago with a big box of games for 5 bucks
Sadly, I still have my original Sears Video Arcade (rebranded Atari 2600) somewhere, and played Space Invaders all night until I rolled it over.
I can't decide if its hard to believe that was over 45 years ago....oh well.

one of my favorite old games, space invaders

On my way home from work I was at a stoplight and there was a clam rake (not sure if that's a normal term, 4 prong rake thing...) from a landscape company so yoinked that guy... then stopped at Home Deopt since I saw they had #9x3" deck screws in 11 pound buckets for $25 so grabbed two for me and two for my brother...

Today at work I found the big pop rivet gun so I borrowed that and took the 3 minutes and put the rivets in the window regulator for my '90 Ranger so that part is done...

Among other things and dodging rain, I finally got my service cart put together with two big wheels that will hopefully allow it to be used in the driveway. Started cleaning some of the stuff off the workbench so I have room to work on the bench instead of what’s on top of the bench. It’s looking like tomorrow I have to play plumber again since the water system for the house is acting up again and I still have my buddy’s bathroom project to deal with.

With me, it’s always a long story, but here’s the brief. We bought it for my son when he was little, I would never know the age. He loved it, and like a lot of kids he got a better one and then a better one and then a better one.

After the first one or two, his mother and I divorced. It wasn’t ugly, it just wasn’t going anywhere. She moved back to New York and I stayed in Atlanta. I was blessed because I had the kind of job where I was going in and out of New York all the time, so I scheduled things just before and just after the weekend and I could see the kids. When we were together, we were together full-time for several days. I think it’s better than the weekend dad, and you watch them on Tuesday, but that’s my opinion.

I realized real quick for the cost of me flying up there, renting a car, getting a hotel, etc., I could bring my son and my daughter down to Atlanta - on my turf and my home - for the same money or less, and it was a much better interaction and a much better learning curve for the kids.

Once they started traveling both ways, he brought the old Atari game down and some other toys and left them here. As the year passed, and he got older - teens and later - he would love when he came down and play the old Atari. I can’t tell you what games we have, but there’s a box of them.

BTW, I have never played it. Bucket list (with my almost 40-year-old son). And in my mostly retirement, I might just plug it in and try it myself.

BTW, it’s in the toy closet with my Lincoln logs and toy soldiers (USA Green army, and Gray German), a 65 year-old monopoly game which is frayed everywhere but still plays as well, and some other things and games from when I was a toddler.

All fun, but a tear in my eye at the moment…

Looks like a Kobalt drag cart…

Now you need to add some chrome stacks

Plumbing: I fought my shower valve for the 8th day after receiving $130 in useless wrong parts from Kohler, and talking to their experts on the phone a have a dozen times. Lincoln knows more about plumbing. However, I can get in and out of the crawlspace, crawling on my belly, all the way to the other end of the house turning the water on and off, like I’m a salamander. I think I’m heading for opening the wall and replacing the damn thing. But I know it’s something really simple if I can figure it out…

I figured out the funky brake lights on the Missing Linc isn’t the switch, it’s that little plastic bushing that goes in the middle of the switch. After 300,000 miles, the inside must be opened up a little bit. Nobody in town sells them, I’m going to have to order one. In the meantime I slimmed down a piece of vinyl electric tape, and wrapped it around where the bushing goes, one and a half turns, and everything is working correctly now. But I’m still ordering the new part, it’s wasn’t Ford electrical tape.

On The Road Ranger cam synchronizer, frozen in place, I took a piece of square tubing that will fit over the top, and I modified it with a claw on the backside, and a tongue on the front side, and to handle on top, so I can use it kind of like a spanner wrench to hopefully wiggle the thing back-and-forth and break it free. I ran out of daylight, so I’m not going to try it till tomorrow. No pictures this time if it doesn’t work. I’ll patent it if it does…

On the personal front, I am down 35 pounds and still working on it, I worked from 8 AM this morning till about 11 o’clock tonight, I can still go up and down the stairs if I forget a tool, and I’m not dying in pain and fatigue. But I’ll probably still have a shot before I go to bed.

It was slow at work today and I had a headache. So, I set up the ticking system to make a loud notification on the laptop in case a new ticket came in, then I went into an empty office, close my eyes and imagined I was somewhere else.
