What did YOU do today?

I shoveled snow off my temporary tarp shelters. Had one 2x4 bust directly over my car at 2am night before last. didn't touch the car tho. But the loud CRACK woke me up! I'll be adding some support beams...

That would be a scary wakeup call. Like a tree falling on the house during a storm, except if it is storming, I'm kind of prepared for that possibility. Glad to hear the ride was unscathed.

Nothing so far today, got to work & was about to fire the machine up and a transformer nearby blew. So no power for the next few hours, est 9:30. sitting with the emergency lights on for the past hour & a half , they are starting to dim. getting chilly as well. I say we go home & try again tomorrow! Let 2nd run today’s schedule.

well the day got busier, at 930 there still wasn’t power & at 945 they updated the estimated time to 12. since it cooled off enough inside that it would take at least a hour to warm up enough to run they sent us home. My parents live about 4 miles from my work and theres a substation just down the road, thought Id call & check in. mom answers but cant seem to hear me so I have my daughter contact them through messenger. turns out they had no power either. So I run home , grab the trailer, load up the generator & extension cords & head that way. (yes the little 3500 generator could fit in the escape but my shoulders cant handle lifting it, but I can drag it up a ramp!) got to my parents & they seemed to be ok, theres a sunroom on the backside of the house that gets full sun and theres a propane heater in there, wasnt too bad temp wise. Dad had plenty of charged up battery packs for his oxygen concentrator. I knew he had a tractor pto generator there but wasnt sure he would be up to getting it all going if they needed it. About noon I came back home, ran the generator a bit since it had been awhile since it had last ran. put stuff up & went to look at the old backhoe 8N Ive gotton some parts from. It last ran in 85 or 88. engine will still roll over, shift rails not seized. Hhmmmn. I might have to drag that home & get it operational again. loader & backhoe removed 10 years ago, was parked because backhoe boom broke while digging out a septic tank.
and the power- came back on around 2:00.

We got our first real snow and the usual shenanigans happened. People who panic and hold everyone else up, people who wait until the last minute to put some good tires on their vehicles, and just plain idiots.

In other news, it has been a good test of the Falken Wildpeaks on the 2019. If they continue to perform like they did this morning, I would highly recommend these tires.

Oh, zeroed the 45/70 yesterday. It was way off, which explains why I missed the deer the year before last. I had to stack two targets on top of each other just to get a hit on paper. It was 4" low of the center bullseye of the lower target with me aiming at the gap where the two targets met each other.

So, now it is zeroed at point of aim to 75 yards and about 3" low at 100. Since we woods hunt, getting a shot at 100 yards would be a very rare thing. Even 75 yards is not going to be the norm.

That's what I've been running on my trucks for years. Not a lot of heavy offroading, and we don't really get snow here, but I've been very happy with them. Put them on the Ranger a couple of times, on the F-100 and dad had them on the F-250. Would have put them back on the F-250 when I replaced them earlier this year, but price was a bit too high for the limited use that the truck sees. Same could have been said about the F-100, but they were cheaper then and I was planning to use the truck a lot more. Turned out to be a good trhing I went cheaper on the F-250 since I'm giving it away soon.

Anyway, if the Ranger goes back lifted 4wd, it'll be getting another set of Wildpeak ATs. The F-150 will most likely get the Wildpeak ATs when it needs tires, still wearing the original Pirelli Scorpions right now. The F-100 will probably get the Wildpeak MTs when it gets rebuilt and the current tires are unsafe, unless I go with a more classic looking offroad tire.

I need to do that to the 6.8 SPC SBR. That rifle with the silencer would be great to use for deer in the back yard. Been saying I was going to do it for a month now but I haven't been any place to do it. I could do it in my back yard, but it's woods like you hunt in, and I don't really have a clear 100 yards to set up a range. Got nothing behind me for over a mile, but about 40 yards to the tree line, and 100 yards past that to my property line. Also by the time I get home from work it's getting too close to dark to get started.
