Kind of making me rethink things. Looks sharp!

The side panels for the Dantin Fab rack got disassembled. That made a big difference. I did also end up having to make the bench/shelf out of scrap so all the bike gear had a home.

I also got offered an upright freezer for free. It's an old bugger, but still works. So, the price is right and we could use it. I made space in the basement for it. I'm just waiting on the details of when to pick it up. The utility trailer needs to stretch it's legs anyway. Other than getting moved out of the way a couple times, all it has done is sit in the driveway this year.

Last day of deer season, went to my moms/brothers to try to find one, saw 3 doe multiple times (pretty sure it's the same three, it's not a huge area) but nothing was following them...

Mid day my brother and I helped my mom with a few things so that was good.

I'm not sure I'm going to get to hunt this year. With the government shutdown, I doubt I'll be able to afford to go, let alone have it buchered if I were to get one.

I'm still going to make sure my rifle is zeroed and all but that may be it for the year. We're almost to the point where people are going to have to request a furlough so they can collect unemployment. Not getting paid while still having to go to work doesn't qualify.

We’ve been butchering our own for probably about 20 years now. Turns out you end up with more meat and better meat doing it yourself. Our old house we would hang it from the deck to skin and quarter, here we have a hook on the patio under a roof. Quarter it up and hang it for a couple days to a week, then take a quarter in at a time and cut it up at the kitchen table.

We don’t care for steaks or roasts, so the steak meat gets cut up for stir fry and stuff, backstrap becomes butterfly chops and the rest gets ground up. Actually to save time butchering, we pack all of the stuff we will grind in 1# and 2# packs and freeze it. Grind it when it’s partially thawed as we need it. Parents have a small smoker so we can make all the smoked stuff, but usually we just make a pile of kielbasa since we like that a lot.

They finally started taking corn off behind the house, got the bush hog back out to clean up around the edges, same thing across the road, get rid of potential deer hiding spots.

Part of the problem is I don't have a place to do it. I suppose I could do it in the garage. There might be enough height to hang it there. Theoretically, I know how to do it, I've just never actually did it. I know, two different things.

Even if I do go, I have to figure out exactly where. With all that is and has gone on with the year, I haven't gotten my antlerless licenses yet. 1A and 2A is sold out. I can only get one guaranteed tag with my deployment orders. 2B has tags but most of that is Allegheny County, and I have no interest in hunting there. The rest is pretty much all suburban communities. So, it would be hunting in a postage stamp. I think my one buddy in Sykesville hunts in 4A or 4B. I'll have to find out. The WMU system here is stupid. They need to go back to the old county system.

Can always come here and I can help get it quartered for you to take home. I don’t have any specific place to hunt but if 2D still has tags we could go up to the East Brady game lands. I know that area reasonably well, just dad can’t really do the walking required and I’ve been limited on what I can tolerate the past couple years so I’ve just sat in the yard. For that matter, I wouldn’t mind doing a little small game hunting, but I don’t like doing that alone, more fun with someone else.

The big problem is Allegheny County is overrun with deer but unless you know someone, there’s not really any place to go.

I just checked. Everything is sold out. So, it will be a one and done, whichever WMU I go with. I'd be up to doing a hunt with you. we can continue the discussion offline.

The windbreak panels got installed on the front porch and the cord for the block heater on whichever truck is on the street has been run. It also acts as a place to provide power for the starter on the snow blowers. I also found a cigarette lighter plug that may work as a replacement for the janky plug that does not work well on the 12 V refrigerator's 12 V cord. I have to see if I can get the power cord to fit into that plug.

Been a fairly productive day... last night I made sure my F350 would run since it hasn't moved since mid September... ran it for 15 minutes just to make sure the batteries recovered... The rolling frame I picked up today was conveniently at a truck repair shop so there was plenty of room and the guy pushed it 90% of the way on the trailer with a forklift... drug it the last 2' with a come along and since I was only driving 7 miles home single chain up front and single 2" ratchet strap in the back was plenty sufficient... He was stuck on $300 but I got both axles (4.10 10.25 and D50TTB, big hub so true D50 not HD44...), it was a gasser but that doesn't matter much to me... it does have a lift so the front brackets might be worth something... well I assume Ford never used adjustable caster eccentric bolts at the pivots at least... the front leaf packs look more extreme than I would expect too... It has both calipers, steering box and linkages so that's at least what I have money in...

After that I got my target backstop out of the shop and near where I want it then unloaded the frame while the tractor was over there. I also mowed some more leaves since more fell. I also pulled the dip stick on the Ford tractor and the oil is very over full so rain water is getting in the crankcase somewhere which is super dumb... since I haven't cranked it since I changed the oil I'll just drain it and separate the water out... I need to take the smoke generator I made for work home so I can figure out how it's getting in, it's not coolant...

Other than that I've just been putzing around the shop cleaning up and doing little projects I've been meaning to do... topped up the PCP pellet guns with air so they're good to go if I deem necessary. Last night I modified one of the pellet guns so a sling would mount on the sling mounts it came with, combination of modifying the gun and sling mounts... of course it took a tumble so tested it today utilizing the black walnuts by the shop and it's definitely zero'd in...

While turning around I was reminded I still need to pull the trans in the F350, I'd just told the guy about reverse and proceeded to forget and it popped out... I now know for sure why you shouldn't keep your hand on the dang shifter...

I also dug through a box of air fittings and sorted them out between the two different styles, more of the ones I use (Harbor Freight standard ones... don't remember which that is) and conveniently found a bunch of those. I also aired up the rear tires on the Mountaineer that's by the shop I need to pull the engine out of this winter and the wiring so I can make a standalone unit out of it, also need to find a donor 4x2 4R70W to use with it for the project I have planned, that needs to happen next year for sure. A '67 Mustang with a mildly updated Explorer 5.0 and 4R70W with shift kit sounds like a good time... should be more fun than the 289 and C4... or at least gain a bunch of fuel mileage...

Ever since we bought the new house last year we haven’t really used the closet off the master bedroom. Before we moved in I gutted it and expanded the closet to 155 sq ft. I never got around to installing any kind of shelving or organizer, so we’ve been using the the closet in one of the spare bedrooms. Today was the day to start the project.

Here’s an older pic, before I installed the half door / access to the storage area over the garage.

I picked up some totes and shelves for the storage area. All the holiday decorations were being stored in here since we moved in, I moved everything into the storage room.

I measured everything out and put together a plan for the new section of the closet that you see in the pic. I ordered a few sections of closet organizers that should be here on Friday.

I plan on getting a coat of paint on the walls tomorrow.
