Kind of making me rethink things. Looks sharp!

The side panels for the Dantin Fab rack got disassembled. That made a big difference. I did also end up having to make the bench/shelf out of scrap so all the bike gear had a home.

I also got offered an upright freezer for free. It's an old bugger, but still works. So, the price is right and we could use it. I made space in the basement for it. I'm just waiting on the details of when to pick it up. The utility trailer needs to stretch it's legs anyway. Other than getting moved out of the way a couple times, all it has done is sit in the driveway this year.

Last day of deer season, went to my moms/brothers to try to find one, saw 3 doe multiple times (pretty sure it's the same three, it's not a huge area) but nothing was following them...

Mid day my brother and I helped my mom with a few things so that was good.

I'm not sure I'm going to get to hunt this year. With the government shutdown, I doubt I'll be able to afford to go, let alone have it buchered if I were to get one.

I'm still going to make sure my rifle is zeroed and all but that may be it for the year. We're almost to the point where people are going to have to request a furlough so they can collect unemployment. Not getting paid while still having to go to work doesn't qualify.

We’ve been butchering our own for probably about 20 years now. Turns out you end up with more meat and better meat doing it yourself. Our old house we would hang it from the deck to skin and quarter, here we have a hook on the patio under a roof. Quarter it up and hang it for a couple days to a week, then take a quarter in at a time and cut it up at the kitchen table.

We don’t care for steaks or roasts, so the steak meat gets cut up for stir fry and stuff, backstrap becomes butterfly chops and the rest gets ground up. Actually to save time butchering, we pack all of the stuff we will grind in 1# and 2# packs and freeze it. Grind it when it’s partially thawed as we need it. Parents have a small smoker so we can make all the smoked stuff, but usually we just make a pile of kielbasa since we like that a lot.

They finally started taking corn off behind the house, got the bush hog back out to clean up around the edges, same thing across the road, get rid of potential deer hiding spots.

Part of thr problem is I don't have a place to do it. I suppose I could do it in the garage. There might be nough height to hang it there. Theoretically, I know how to do it, I've just never actually did it. I knkw, two different things.

Even if I do go, I have to figure out exactly where. With all that is and has gone on with the year, I haven't gotten my antlerless licenses yet. 1A and 2A is sold out. I can only get one guaranteed tag with my deployment orders. 2B has tags but most of that is Allegheny County, and I have no interest in hunting there. The reat is pretty much all suburban communities. So, it would be hunting in a postage stamp. I think my one buddy in Sykesville hunts in 4A or 4B. I'll have to find out. The WMU system here is stupid. They need to go back to the old county system.

Can always come here and I can help get it quartered for you to take home. I don’t have any specific place to hunt but if 2D still has tags we could go up to the East Brady game lands. I know that area reasonably well, just dad can’t really do the walking required and I’ve been limited on what I can tolerate the past couple years so I’ve just sat in the yard. For that matter, I wouldn’t mind doing a little small game hunting, but I don’t like doing that alone, more fun with someone else.

The big problem is Allegheny County is overrun with deer but unless you know someone, there’s not really any place to go.
