What did YOU do today?

Drowned more mice. 5 today. 16 total in 4 days. Bucket traps are awesome. Mice were walking right through sticky traps.
Yeah, I think they work better than snap traps

Hell of a day. Woke up about 3:45 am, dog wanted out, usually its about 5am at the earliest but for whatever reason it was early today. I let her out, opened the chicken house door to the enclosed run, went back in the house. was kind of hungry so I grabbed a donut & was going to read news on my phone, saw I had a message from my daughter at around 2am. Opened it to news that she was in a car accident, in a hospital a good hour drive away & has a broken hip. Kids were with them but they are (physically) ok. her husband has a broken left wrist & a very sore right leg. Story is they were cut off on I-75 & he plowed into something, another car, guardrail, something. I saw pictures of the car, obviously toast (saturn). She might be home monday, I got to the hospital about 6am & was there until 730. Then went home & grabbed the mower & trailer, went to her house & mowed. Got things together for tomorrow. My electric weed eater wouldn’t touch the overgrowth at her house & since she will need a clear path to the back side door with no steps I am heading back tomorrow with a gas weed eater that has a brush head on it. Might drag the empty trailer to haul away the cut weeds & some downed branches. Their other vehicle is a 2000’s 1/2 ton dodge crew cab 4x with nearly bald 35”’s on it. might have to give up one of the escapes for awhile, mine is in better overall shape but needs the front control arms on , a alignment & the back seat put in. The V6 escape is newer but badly rusted in critical spots plus it leaks oil. One thing at a time, get that house accessible first.

I'm glad they survived and hope they are healing. That is scary! I'm sure they appreciate everything you're doing to help them out. Please keep us updated.

I cut the old steering wheel apart for my dad's 1950 Willys pickup and made an aluminum hub for a modern steering wheel. I turned the splined sleeve round on an arbor, made the aluminum piece, shrunk the splined piece into it with .002" interference, some loctite, and 3 dutchman screws. It turned out ok. I also 3D printed a black and red W logo for the center (horn button is on dash).

If you put that level of detail and effort into the whole truck...
I wanna see more of it. That's nice.

I probably will at some point. He doesn't want to spend a lot on it so I keep making him random parts to keep him interested lol

Hmmm...

I really want an aftermarket wheel in my 96, but I don't believe anyone makes a quality adapter..

This something you could/be willing to do.. at some point?

Klx140r. The kid I got it from is the nephew of the guy who built the minibike lol.. really wanted the thing back in the family I guess.

It's in as nice of shape as any dirt bike you get from a 17 year old kid lol.. rear wheel bearings are shot, some rear spokes missing, front wheel warped to hell, a slip on pipe booger welded to the factory header, dead battery, no front disc, doesn't like to start, boggy dead spot right off idle when moving..

Kid claims it's a '23.. but well wait and see what a vin decoder says lol. Probably gonna pick up a compression test kit too..

Either way.. even if it's running out of squish.. I'm happy and would still consider the direction of the trade as 'up'.

Probably. I'd need a donor steering wheel and a lot of dimensions though.
It might be easier to find an adapter for a 96. He's got a 1950 Willys. The old simple round column is pretty easy to make look good too.

Katie & Anthony did go home yesterday, Katie is sore but Id expect it to be awhile, guess she has 8 weeks of not being able to put weight on that leg. Im guessing she tensed up as the crash happened & the floor pan pushed up at her leg, I have no other idea how she could break a hip when it was a frontal impact. Im sure Anthony had a similar thing going on with the steering wheel. I just tonight dumped all the weeds off my trailer, the hot temperatures this week really dried them out & made it easy to offload. Im shocked it’s wednesday already.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad they made it home. That'll help big time. 👍

I totally understand about the heat.

I got the interior portion of the panels for other drawer sanded yesterday in preparation for gluing it all together today. It's easier to sand the inside of the panels while it is all apart. Once the glue has set, planing and sanding of the exterior will get done.

Then I can start on building the platform sections that will get bolted to the box to support the 12 volt refrigerator and the racks to hold the bigger equiment in place, vertically, for more efficent use of the limited space in a 5 foot bed.

Fix-a-flat makes a sticky mess inside of tires and on rims… the pic doesn’t quite do it justice. Took a lot of scrubbing with brake clean and rags to get the rim clean enough to put the new tire on. Thankfully only one wheel had that, the rest just needed corrosion cleaned up. Got 4 tires mounted for dad’s 99 Ranger so I stop having to swap the one good set of wheels around between that and moms Explorer.

Also finally cleaned the corrosion off the one rim on the F-150 so hopefully it will hold air for more than a couple days now.

Got our blown up 355 stripped down and moved to the other side of the garage then got the chain hoist hung by the door ready to pick the 385 out of the back of my brother's truck when he gets here tomorrow. Got to swap over some stuff - water pump drive, alternator, crank trigger, carb, flex plate, etc. MIGHT be ready for next weekend but I'm not going to get in a mad thrash to get it done because that's just looking for trouble and we've been there/done that before and more than once too.....

Last night I procrastinated pulling the trans out of the F350 again, ended up mowing the side yard with the tractor since the finish mower was on. Was good I talked myself out of the riding mower since it had a flat anyway... Ended up pulling that tire off and getting the tube out, eventually found the leak since soapy water wasn't working I filled up the bathtub... I'll be able to patch it just fine, might as well clean up the wheel since it's rusting a bit...

If anyone is wondering those screw jack type bead breakers work great, sure might not be ideal for that 12" wheel but sure easier than other options...
