What did YOU do today?

It was snowing again last night and the dog was hyper so I took him out in the yard with the laser pointer. He got in a good running with the added bonus of me shaking because like an idiot I was out there in PJ's and a coat freezing and he loved the dot shaking like crazy from me shivering.

Sadly I didn't think to grab my phone for some video of it till I was out there and him in the yard. In my defence who thinks "hey I should grab my phone to let the dog out.".
Every once in awhile you end up in that kind of situation and wonder why you didn’t grab a phone. I have a bad habit of leaving mine in the house when I’m around the property because cell service here is terrible. There’s been a lot of times I wished I had a phone or camera with me.

I made it home from deployment yesterday. It appears just in time to get the begining rumblings of a sickness. Better here than there I guess. Anyway, I have to do some in processing today and I'll have time to get over whatever is brewing.

What does cost to build a shop like that? I'm envious.

IIRC Scott & I have the same size shop (30x40) but mine was traditional stick framed as opposed to his pole barn. I hired a contractor for the concrete floor but I did the rest. All said & done I think I had about 35k into mine and that's totally finished on the inside, insulated, wired, heated with a dedicated gas line, and two commercial garage doors.

That's 10 years ago prices though. I built it in 2016. My insurance figured it would cost me $75k to build it again if I had to and that was with me doing the labor and reusing the slab. Not sure how accurate that really is.

Holy cow, high prices. I poured the $31/yd concrete and framed the shed of miracles, 9‘8“ clear on the inside, home handmade trusses for clear span, about 45’ deep x 20’ wide, with a 45’ x 12’ lean to carport over brick matching the driveway. 16 x 8 garage door, a half bathroom for about $8000. It’s not finished inside, but it has a 50 amp electrical service, lights, and outlets, including a couple 220 V, gas line and furnace, phone lines and security lines, etc., etc.

But that was a long time ago. I can’t remember if Jesus was one of the carpenters or not at that time.

(actually about 1997)

we can toss insulting low prices around... the "shop" where I painted my truck is a 1949 Sears catalog garage kit. I looked it up when the house was bought (house is also a 1949, but it is big 30x30 square shit shack before renovation) I am pretty sure of this figure from a 1949 catalog - $200. (everything except labor and slab)

I might have undershot a bit, I think it was around $11k for the slab and all in all around $11k for electrical (but that's new meter, they upsized the transformer and the wires from the pole to the shop to the house were replaced and in conduit), so it's closer to $40k... but the only thing I was able to buy in pre rona pricing was the shop kit as I bought it in '20, concrete in '21 and wiring was '22... doing steps as $$ allowed

And yeah, apparently Shran and I have the same size... my kit came with blanket insulation throughout, man door, one 10'x10' door and one 10'x12' door, wish I'd gone for insulated doors (man door is), I need to get a kit for that...

i am trying to pass on catching what my wife has, rsv.

So far, runny nose and cough. And it still sucks

May be pulling the trigger on a old 8N, its a hour drive from here. not sure of the year, its a later one so guessing 50-52, has the side distributor. Hydraulic lift issue but its possible the seller doesn’t realize the pto has to be running for the 3-point to work. Not a big deal, a few years back I swapped out the pump & lift cover on dads 2N with the old “backhoe tractor” 8N, still have the original 2N parts, could use those. I have the grille from the backhoe 8N that was removed years ago so thats a easy cosmetic upgrade over no grille. The 2000 will probably take me awhile to fix, might sell it once its fixed, we will see. The 8N can do what I need a tractor for & uses less fuel, lighter too so the lack of power steering isnt as much of a issue as with the heavier 2000. I did like the power of it though and a 8N is about half. Still waiting to hear back from the seller about a meet up time & address. Its 800. It floors me how these hold so much value, Ive seen restored ones go for over 2500, and they were only 1500 new back in the day.

I love it! Absolutely, black rustoleum with red flames, with yellow outlines on the flames. A bag of artist brushes at Walmart cost about three or four dollars. You don’t have to worry about being perfect, or being Michelangelo Brushed, not rolled (kind of like “shaken, not stirred” from Bond). Black wheels with red accents…

And before you buy graphics for a couple hundred bucks, you could buy a vinyl cutting machine and a dozen different color vinyls for the same price, and make your own.

I hope it works out for you!

Didn't do as much as I'd hoped to do today but did get firewood and went to town with the wife and did some stuff, got some corner trim from the re-store ($1 a stick, stupid cheap compared to other options) that was even plastic extrusions so it's "shop rated". I got 6 sticks and used it to go around the man door and both windows and made a window sill for the window I didn't do that to before... Will be going back out shortly to get some more things done...

Oh, I looked at the cheap Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter I got recently and noticed that the tip was TRASHED so hopefully that's why it supposedly didn't work, ordered a cheap Amazon kit of consumables for $33 that should be here tomorrow so we'll see...

Finally changed that heater hose on the 88 Lincoln. The incentive was a glass of wine with a new to me sweet blond. I gave it a quick wash too. That then turned into a delightful dinner.. Very nice. There was even a kiss good night, woo hoo.

I also played musical cars to have the Road Ranger ready to wash in the morning and hook up to the step trailer which I had already turned around. I’m hopefully going to head out about 6 AM and wash them both in a couple them up, change clothes and be at the cruise in by 7:30. There’s a pot of coffee in there somewhere too.

Fedex dude dropped off the new tonneua cover as we were leaving to a birthday party. Nice, i will hopefully get it on tomorrow

Mostly mundane stuff here and trying to adjust to the time zone. My sleep schedule is still messed up but progress is being made. I was able to sleep a whole five hours when I am supposed this time.
