What did YOU do today?

Finished the last of the important car-winterizing projects today, welding up the last hole in the wife's car. I know I cut out a bit less than best practices, but my theory is that welding on borderline sheet metal is good practice for heat control. I'm way too impatient to document everything - I did fill in those pinholes before the bondo skim. It's primed but I don't have any color match paint. Good enough for a woman who doesn't want me around anymore. 🤣

My first *nice* pistol was an OG XD .45. I loved how it shot & felt in hand.. until I shot a glock lol.

Man... I can only hope to stumble upon a clearance sale for firearms one day. My local shop deals with a LOT of fancy NFA items.. so they know they have customers with money 😣

A LOT of money.

One of my buddys from high-school, his father had a real deal selectfire m16.. he sold it way back when he got 'bored' of it for something like 22k 😳

I don't care for the Glock grip angle but everyone is different. Nothing wrong with Glock. They make a good, reliable firearm.

I'm not surprised on the M16 selling price. Select fire firearms are EXPENSIVE! If it was a pre-GCA firearm, I would have a hard time getting rid of it. Those are few and far between as far as availability and being transferable. Everything after the GCA is much harder to purchase.

I've been looking at the small solo stoves for awhile. I wanted one for the deck... mainly because the wife and kids love s'mores... and building a fire in the fire pit to make a couple s'more is just too much work.

This is a knock off... on sale for $20. Small box of fire starters... 20 lb bag of hardwood pellts... and she can make s'mores whenever she wants.

The smile on her face was priceless...

I made some progress in the garden. It's almost usable now. I still need about 80 block to complete the retaining wall part of the project.

Got the new back door installed, As with most projects this 2-1/2 hour job only took 6 hours! I did have a bad sill plate, not surprised really, Ive helped with other similar projects in the past & that bottom board always seems to be in need of replacing. The inside trim had bad spots at the bottom from moisture. Its a compressed wood product so you know what happens when moisture appears, it expands. I think I spent more time on trim than the door change out. New door is much heavier. old one was fiberglass skinned with a foam core. The new one is a aluminum shell with a wood core. Original door was hard to lock & could only be locked or unlocked from the inside. Plus new door has a window that can be opened. I had priced a door through lowes & they wanted over $1,000 for one, I went to a actual manufacturer & saved a little over half.

Started fighting a stump that was in my way for my firewood lean-to... I won but it was a fight, the stump was way bigger than I expected, put the tiller on the tractor and tilled around it then used the trenching shovel to get around it which exposed like 4 6" roots which explains why it didn't move last year when I tried pulling it out... this time I dug it out where I could and attacked it with the cordless sawzall... it still fought the tractor but I eventually won...

After that I tilled a bit more to smooth it out more and before I took the tiller off I made a front stand for it so it's easier to take off... then I put the box scraper on and flattened things out more and moved the extra dirt to the front yard by the rose bushed where I filled in the ditch last year since there's now some low spots.

Did two of my window cleaning jobs today, my part-time gig. One regular and one at my bud's brewpub. He doesn't pay me but I get the employee discount on beer.
It's true, my best friend owns a brewery.
Cut the grass when I got home while the Ranger cooled down, then I changed the oil.
Tomorrow I'll change the coolant in the wife's minivan.

Oh yeah, the wife tried to help tonight and offered to mow the front yard... she got 2/3 done with the first lap and came walking over to me while I was fighting the stump with a belt in her hand... apparently the random rubber smell was that particular belt and that was it's chosen time :). I've been meaning to gather up a spare set of belts but hadn't gotten there yet...

Saved by the belt.

Saved by the belt.
Meh, that mower is a trooper, 2nd high with deck engaged and it mows like a champ, she's fully capable and was willing (I didn't even ask), I just have bought the second step up in belts and it was time... I've gone through all the belts in the last year and somehow had a full set extra but just ran out... :)

Before dark I managed to pick up most of the rock piles I'd made from moving dirt last weekend, still have to gather a BUNCH of rocks to put them in the pile... After dark I filled the fuel tank on the tractor while waiting on the carburetor for the bosses inlaws edger... I was unsuccessful in getting it running but it's a 4 stroke weedeater engine and the fuel is blue so I have a feeling it's lean...

did you notice if she had a utility knife in the other hand?

Yesterday was emptying the box truck so I can move it. Half of the stuff from it has been up at a friends for awhile now. Filled a 6.5x10 trailer deck with stuff and probably have two more loads like that to move yet… Argh. That’s probably going to be today’s project.

Farm tractor battery was dead again, I was going to use it to move the trailer. Guess I’m going to have to make a priority of fixing that once I’m done moving vehicles.

Helped dad a little with getting his one Ranger together.

Hopefully this week I can get my box truck moved and my buddy Paul’s truck back up to him. Also have to work on finishing what I need to do on dad’s Ranger and get my 88 ready to move. I don’t know if all of that will be done, but we’ll see.

Busy week and I’m running behind on this.

When I married the NYC practice wife years ago, she came with a Browning high-power. Always been my favorite. The one she had was from her father who brought it back from World War II.

USA and Germany both used the high-power during the war in 9 mm. Americans always had their guns marked with national logos, eagles, and such. The German versions were marked with the German eagle and the swastica.

early in the war, if the Germans captured an American copy, they would recondition them and also put the German markings on them. Once they started to get their ass kicked, they would just check them out and re-issue them on their side.

The one her dad brought home, had both markings on it. I showed it to a bunch of people and a bunch of gun shops, and nobody could ever tell me what it was worth (theoretically), but they always wanted to buy it from me.

Unfortunately, it went back with the practice wife…

While I’m on that theme, the redhead was a bust. I’m having lunch with a new blonde today, we’ll see. It’s a different market. All of them come with guns down here.

Changing oil in the tractor today, putting the 3-point blade on too since it will most likely rain eventually and when I need to get it out of the treeline it will be very soft. Right now the ground is harder than concrete and will stay rut-free when drove over.
