What did YOU do today?

Yesterday, the deadline, I submitted the 14 page appeal (21 page addendum) on the tax assessment on my house in Dunwoody. They put in for a 57% increase. While the house may have gone up in value, I’m convinced it’s all based in the ongoing dispute I’ve had with the city since we formed the city, and “they” then reversed all their positions during the elections (my “friends”). I not only objected, I fought very successfully since I know people in the media and government. Unfortunately, it is the way the country has been going for a couple decades. No concept of doing what’s right, only win, and use your power to cripple your perceived enemy. Ok, off my soapbox.

Work on the junk pile was delayed yesterday by thunderstorms, and I woke up this morning with a little pink eye. When I worked in Africa right out of school, they taught me how to put a tiny bit of Neosporin in the corner of your eye. The alternative was to go see the witch doctor. Took an hour, and it feels much better.

Then my upstairs AC started limping. I hope it’s just a shot of Freon. It’s still cool. My guy is coming tomorrow.

Property tax is BS anyway. The tax is based on what someone says your property is worth. There is no such thing as an impartial assessor. They are biased in some form or fashion. So there will never be a proper assessment of what the property is worth.

I got the A/C working for the house. It turns out that the capacitor for the A/C had bit the dust. I think I'll still have an HVAC company come out and look over the rest of the system since it's been a while since it's been looked at.

The grass has been cut before it rains. It's supposed to rain, possibly tonight and pretty much all day tomorrow.

The second box steel fabrication work has been finished, the boxes that replaced the plastic bins have been filled with tinder and sticks for fire starting, and the cooler have been brought inside so they can cool and be ready for food and drink packing.

In a bit, I get back out side and get the boxes and other gear reloaded into the trailer in preparation for camping. Again, it is supposed to rain tonight and most of tomorrow. So, I have to get most of the stuff loaded now. As it is, unless the forecast changes, we are going to be delayed a day in going to camp since setting up tents in the rain is sub-optimal.

Depending on when the girl friend gets home, firewood for the trip may get loaded tonight. But she has the 2019 and it's a bit difficult to load it when it isn't here.

Wife (soon to be ex 😀) came home last night and said her car (2013 Sonata) smelled like hot metal. Found rear brake/wheel red hot. Today she left me with the POS and took my truck to work. 🤬
Found rear caliper seized. Upon further inspection, found dust boot to be detached and just floating on the piston like a rubber band.

I thought hmmm, I don't think I've seen that before, why'd that happen? Proceeded to remove the caliper and found mucho corrosion around the top of the bore so I decided to just bite the bullet and pop the piston out. Turns out that the groove where the boot sits corroded so much it actually popped the boot out of its groove. Never seen that before.

That's when I realized - and this is what I hate about this car, it's stupidly over-engineered, but on the cheap - the pot for the piston is aluminum but the hook that grabs the pads is steel. Brilliant. The piston bore is a sacrificial anode.

Short version, couldn't get the piston back in because the same thing happened behind the seal, pushed the seal out enough the piston wouldn't go back in. Edit: so I pulled the seal and cleaned that out too.

Anyway, what a tedious irritating project. It's fixed and back together and working properly. That car really sucks to work on.

pulled a metric buttload of thistle weeds out of the flower garden. I think I might be allergic to the damn plants, my legs and arms are all itchy now...

Good for you, good management, get the girlfriend to load the firewood!

Hmmmm….

So you are about to divorce her, but you fixed the brakes on her car.

I don’t think you were raised where I was in the land of Sinatra…

I'm going out of my way to keep it "amicable" as the alternative is paying lawyers half of whatever little there is to split. 😉

Oh yeah, and I'm sentimental. And they didn't sell cement shoes in her size. 😄

You haven’t been shopping in the right place. Stop by… I know a guy who knows a place.

The guy who used to be our congressman knows too. his dad got thrown in the bay with cement shoes when he was a teen, according to wikipedia.

Went to the local offroad park. They put on a good show today with a bounty hill competition. Video coming in a few days. Top prize was $5,000. 2nd and 3rd also got money.

This guy made a second attempt to get the best time. Oops.

This young lady had the slowest time. But she made it to the top. There was also a money prize for her and she deserved it.

This.

Just earlier this year I went this route with my ex... 2 month mandatory wait time (per state of IN) and a mediator. cost us a total of 3750 plus 157 dollar filing fee. had to take a 50 dollar co parenting course (online, also per state of IN) because a child was involved. so after the divorce, we lived together for about 5 months while our son finished 7th grade and getting thehouse ready to sell. May 31, we were not only divorced, but had our own houses and done. well June 3 for me, as my house purchase needed my half of the equity from the previous house...

you better believe him. he is from Jersey!

The 2019 and trailer are packed for camping. I'm just waiting on the coolers to get filled with food so that they can be loaded. Then we can head out to camp, picking up ice on the way.

I picked up a roll up camping table and folding kitchen stand to test out for LBL since the tent camping sites do not have tables or fire rings. They fit in the trailer and there might be just enough room for UCO Flatpack Grill but that will have to wait for my next pay check. I'll probably test that out at Carlisle.

So far I'm liking this Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp. You do need a roof rack to make it work properly for on vehicle use. Setup is pretty simple and fairly quick. I've tried both the two pole and single pole setup and both work well. I still need to try the stand alone configuration.

Cellular data is being a jerk. So, pictures will have to come later. But the tarp is working pretty well on the 2019. I'll have to try it on the 2011 at Truck Nationals and see how it works with it. The 2011 is a little narrower but the height is similar.

The Mountain Summit roll up table was a good gamble. It packs down pretty small, is easy to setup, and is stable. The only complaint is the table top is too slick. Things slide every easily on it. I'm going to experiment with some rubber drawer liner mesh and see how that works.

The GCI outdoor kitchen stand is also another win. It isn't as compact as the table but still folds down fairly compact. Both would be a good candidate for truck bed camping and the tarp is looking to be one as well.
