What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

While it was warm and nice for the first time in a long time I mowed for a bit then dug into the '90's U joints... Took out the dry standard duty Spicer joints that I put in in like '10 or '11, apparently the factory grease just wasn't good enough :). One had spun the cap annoyingly but I had put full circlips on the outer joints (apparently just clearanced the inner joints so the partial clips could spin? whatever, that joint was dry too but no spun caps) so I took a shortcut and used red loctite, if I get a wild hare tomorrow I'll tack weld that cap to the shaft... I spent some time on the center slip spline, it was awful rusty for some reason, was pretty stuck in place when I separated it, gonna have to find a small wire brush to get in there then put some marine grease in there before reassembly...

Tomorrow I'll hopefully get the passenger side shaft back together with the wheel bearings and everything then I'll tweak the alignment back to where it should be and will likely weld something in place to hopefully keep the passenger alignment bushing from turning...

If memory serves it's part of the shift fork linkage for the 5/R slider, I'm pretty sure it's eccentric... I don't screw with that, even when rebuilding the transmission it doesn't need to be touched...
I figured it was something like that. Thanks

Who really needs 5th and reverse? Just remove that.
I use reverse. But with a 3.0l and 35” tires, 5th gear is just there so I can brag about having a 5 speed.

Nothing yet. I need to wait for the coffee to kick in so I have enough energy to make pancakes and something else to eat. Then, I might take off one of the door panels to see if the 6.5" never used Boston Acoustic speakers I came across in the garage will fit in the front doors.

I think I bought them for a Mazda B2200 I had in the 90s and ended up installing something else.

Finally put my new stickers on- Both a reproduction Twin Cities Assembly decal and a fun “distance to the moon” one, both from Dave Barton over at prancingmoose.com. Great quality stickers, would absolutely recommend!

(I can’t get a good shot of the assembly plant one through my tint, but it’s there)

Went to the lake again today, spring like weather is really good to have sunshine. While my ranger was parked, had the engine idling for a bit, and a guy in a new super duty towing a huge boat pulled over for a moment and we starting talking about ford stuff. The way my ranger sounds he asked if I had a 302..others asked the same. I said no, mentioned what I had done for the engine and exhaust setup, he said good job and sounds good.

Had no idea the new 6.7 diesel has 500hp and 1200 of tq..that's impressive. I'm used to the ole 7.3 diesel.
Not to derail this thread, but out of curiosity, what have you done for the engine and exhaust? (My factory exhaust is looking a bit rough around the edges from the rust and I’m looking to upgrade)

Like their pull your own part yards? I gotta check and see if they have one near me, I do go to pull-a-part quite often though

This load was stupid heavy. First load i hauled in 10 years of ownership of this truck i thought i mighta overdid it. But she got er did. The 460 didnt groan nearly as much as everything else

Disclaimer....i went 4 miles on no traveled dirt roads.

Not technically done TO either of them yet but I ordered $580 worth of parts for both. More for the 2011 than the 2019 but the 2019 is due for some new rear rotors and pads and I also ordered a quart bottle of that "special sauce" brake fluid it requires. The 2011 is going to be getting new front rotors and pads, new set of O2 sensors, and rear parking brake cables.

Trimmed 8 apple trees (dwarf's so not huge) that I haven't trimmed in about 5 years so it was a pretty heavy trim... used the '97 Ranger to transfer the branches to the burn pile, took like 5 trips... now that I can mow around the trees again I'm going to go get a drink, a cigar and drive in circles for a few hours... getting some water and sitting for a few first though :)

After fixing that stupid plastic T (5/8-3/8-5/8) in the cooling system that broke, stood there with my arms folded wondering wtf that “Engineer” who designed it was thinking, while checking for leaks.
No leaks….Changed plugs and wires, then wondered what was next lol. Decided I needed more power! Found a 2.3 Turbo Engine out of a 88 t-bird…wish me luck!
