What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Fresh oil in the V8. First oil change on the new engine. Surprisingly hard to find conventional oil these days. None of the local places carry any mainstream conventional oils. Had to settle for using O'Reilly house brand. We'll see what I can find before the next change in 3k miles.

Also reinstalled the coil packs and IACV that I had swapped out a couple of weeks ago for troubleshooting. Installed new Screamin Demon coil packs with the new injectors, then had serious problems with the tunes to go with the injectors. Reinstalled the old packs and an old IACV to verify that they weren't the problem, but never got around to reinstalling the new parts. Will have new plug wires installed in the next few days once some heat shield comes in.

2 things on my list still yet to do, 1, replace rear shackle on both leaf springs, 1 is severely bubbled up with rust. Anyone use the ATS shackles? Also need to service the rear diff. 3 quarts is what I have seen. Most seem to like RTV, but I love the Lubelocker gaskets, cost difference is about $30 since I have no RTV currently. I plan to use 75W90 as most all of its full synthetic. I need to get my axle code off the door to see if I have a LS, but several of the gear oils I am looking at say no extra friction modifier is needed. Any opinions on what direction I should go with on servicing the rear diff and shackle replacements.

There should be a little metal tag on one of the bolts that holds the differential cover on that also has the rear end information. If your truck has been modified, I would go there first.

No modifications, so its stock. I looked at the tag yesterday, but more to figure out what I had. It's the 8.8 for sure. I'll record the numbers next time I am under there.

I like using a different cover gasket myself. ATV is fine... but clean up the next time it comes apart sucks.

Shackles... Dorman units are likely available locally. I'm not fond of the quality. They seem thin and no so robust. I ended up with a set of 1 to 2 inch lift shackles from Supreme Suspension.

Yeah, Dorman is a brand I won't use unless its push-pins or screws. I round a few new old stock on ebay, but will probably go with the ATS shackles.

Decided to pull my old truck out of the back yard since the ground was firm enough this morning. feels nice to drive something with torque again.

Technically I didn't do this just today, but the interior of Roger is looking pretty spiffy I think.

Went after a 97 explorer interior after reading a whole bunch about seat swaps. New vinyl floor, new headliner, new switches and buttons, it's styling.

I have the center console from the Explorer, it's going to be a hoot modifying it to fit the twins sticks but I think I can make it happen. Might do a thread about it, we'll see.
