What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Did some logging work at the sportsman’s club. The left over mess the logging company left was encroaching on the club parking lot.

If you’re looking for things to do… my Ranger still needs finished :icon_rofl:

True, but I can get replacements for my coils, even from the aftermarket (Moog). The torsion-bar guys here have few options left. I don't understand the lack of aftermarket support there.

I don't understand what you are claiming about the sway bars sagging over time. The springs eventually sag because they have constant load on them for years. The sway bar does not - it only has load on it while you are going around a corner and the sway bar is having to resist that rolling force, and most people take about the same number of left hand turns as right hand turns, so there is basically no opportunity for the sway bar to sag. If you are thinking that the sway bar gets less stiff with time, then you are wrong, because the Young's modulus of steel does not change over time so the stiffness does not change.

I think he's taking about torsion bar sagging

I agree. I think one of you (@rubydist) has been talking about sway bars, thile the other (@ekrampitzjr) has been taking about torsion bars. With that in mind you're both right. T-bar Rangers need more T-bar support in the aftermarket and s-bars don't sag unless bushings are shot. I'm of the opinion that I need bigger of both, and I don't even remember what I have for either.

And you're surrounded on three sides by Canada.

Eh... Its not as bad as your making it sound. The folks in N.B and N.S are FINE people, and we love when they come to visit.

The queebs though.. they like to come here and then get pissed that none of us can understand their poor choice of language 🙃 🙂

How dare you insult those fine, french-speaking individuals.

Je pète dans votre direction générale. Ta mère était un hamster et ton père sentait le sureau

You lost me at hamster 😋

But really. They seriously love to come and vacation in maine, and seriously get pissed when nobody here can speak French. Seems silly.

We get that from them to

Thursday I was a surprise snow storm in the area (well, wednesday night, but whatever...), roads were fine at home so I took the '97 Ranger, got half way to work and it started turning to ice conveniently where there's a decently steep hill that they had sanded just after it started snowing so the surface was slick, fine for 4x4, vans, FWD cars, wasn't going to risk it in a 4x2 ranger with no weight in the back with near bald car tires... flipped around (fun after I'd pulled in the narrow shoulder in snow on an incline, had to get out a few times to dig out the rear tires, air them down and spent a little bit with the corner of the rear bumper against the guard rail...) and parked in a grocery store and rode to work with the boss...

Yesterday I decided to take the AWD Explorer, wasn't even icy anymore but whatever, on the way to work the heat was lacking from the cowl being iced over but stunk like mouse excrement (just a month ago I evicted one that took over the heater fan and box), halfway home I got the telltale grinding and vibration from the heater fan that it had an occupant... so 35F outside and no heat with a rear window cracked because they are stinky bastages...

Well… I’m still under the weather from the sinus infection, but…

Many, many thanks to @sgtsandman for coming out and helping me get after the green Ranger. It was pretty much divide and conquer and my list got considerably shorter. Few things aren’t fully crossed off, but it’s largely just things that need bolted in for good, tightened finally and the like. There’s really not a whole lot left now beyond probably a day of finishing several things. Front clip, some trim, and a bunch of welding mostly. Huge, huge progress. I’m exhausted but excited.

Awesome! 3 cheers for SgtSandman!

Replaced the antisway bar links. (Yes, I should've done it when I replaced the shocks. Never had to do them before.) It's a very easy job to do and would tell any new mechanic to try it. (Of course, mine were Florida rust free, so that made a major difference.)

I am confused though. We make a big deal about the diameter thickness of the antisway bar but the link that connects them is tiny in comparison.
