What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

You have not lived if you haven't got caught in a snow storm. That turned a 10 hour drive into 18 hour drive through hell
Oh come on, it’s not that bad with a Ford. One of the best drives I took was back in college. Of course, it was also well lubricated with a liberal amount of beer, but let me explain… Picked up my buddy in my 89 Eddie Bauer Bronco II and we went up to a fire department gun bash. Mind, I was in Edinboro and the bash was in Erie. No snow on the way in and hadn’t heard of anything really predicted. When they opened the doors at the end of the night, there was a good 6-8” on the ground and coming down hard. We got on the road we wanted before a cop shut it off, mostly because the cop car was having trouble getting anywhere and the ol B2 was paddling right along like I had tracks. Got pretty nasty pretty quick and finally just put ‘er in 4lo and stumped along at a hot 15 mph, blasting through drifts higher than the hood. Thing was a tank.

Well, got some gasket paper today (couldn’t find anything of mine but the coolant paper and I needed fuel resistant so I made Autozone run some down), so I made up a new gasket for the Ferguson and put the carb back together. Went down and put the tractor back together and aired up the one low tire. Cranked it a bit and got it to almost run a couple times and then the battery went flat. I don’t think it’s cranking as hard as it should and my neighbor thought it had weak spark so I guess I’ll have to charge the battery and try again.

So I put that on hold and went back to my green Ranger. Got a couple vacuum lines on the motor and a couple little things done, then got dad to help a few to take down the canopy and put the hood on. Still have a lot to take care of before the front clip goes on but I’m at a point where I don’t think the hood is going to really be hard to work around and it will be easier to deal with like this. Then I threw a few things on the F-150 for tomorrow.

Sold the black camper top so i can hopwfully go down to the border and get the matching red camper top sometime soon

The Amazon guy finally showed up about an hour ago so I just got in from putting the new speakers in the '90, for the first time in over a decade I can put the windows ALL the way down without hitting speakers! After I removed them I'm convinced they weren't doing anything after the windows have hit the magnets so many times over the years, pretty sure the voice coils are sheared off the cones... The sound is nice and crisp, not sure if it's needed but as I said in my other thread, logic doesn't need to make sense :)

Battery on the '00 Explorer is charged up mostly, this morning I pulled the heater blower on the '98 Explorer since last time I moved it I could tell there was something in the blower so I gave it the ol super spin (knew it was a mouse, it STANK in there). The mouse died from the rotational forces conveniently but there was a dumb amount of insulation in there, bastages... took the shop vac to it and it's good to go now...

Mice are a constant battle here. I had one (maybe a family), that would pack the air box of my DD every two days. Finally put a mousetrap in the air box because nothing else was working. Supposedly they don’t like the smell of Irish Spring soap, well, the mice around here seem to enjoy EATING the soap. I set up a bucket trap one year and got over 30 one fall, plus all of the traps. It’s ridiculous.

Yeah, they're jerks, there's some baggies of deterrent that supposedly works you can get on amazon, I should grab some... I need to put new blocks of poison bait stuff in the air boxes of the rigs...

before I did the speakers I moved my 3 point disc into the shop (was mowing with the tractor in the back area of the property cuz I could and decided to while I had the tractor out) so hopefully I finally fix it, I've had it for I think 4 years? It needs 2 or 3 pins replaced or installed since it's complicated and fully adjustable, has two levers one for the front gangs and one for the rear gangs, once it dries up I need to break some dirt and get the yard flat, that disc should make faster work than a tiller (that I don't have). I finally have the material to fix the disc and the shop is finally wired for a welder, now I just need to swap the stick welder that's in the garage for the one that's in the shop... nothing against A/C stick welding but D/C is nicer hence having both :), the wire welder is nice but 1/8" 6011 and 7018 will weld 3/8" plate easier than .035 flux core...

If I was really ambitious I would pull the windshield in the '90 to reseal it, the rustoleum primer I put on it in '11 didn't adhere to the metal everywhere, need to use a good acid etch primer and real paint before putting it back in next time...

I replaced the two front O2 sensors on the ‘03. The one looked like it was a rear 02 sensor not a front one, that may be why they were getting bad readings. Also may explain why it was running weird.

We shall see when I drive to work tomorrow.

I fired up Torque on the way to work this morning to check the TPS, it's showing 17.3% at the idle stop and 93.3% at WOT, not sure on the limits to enable the clear flood mode, if it wasn't so dang rainy I would stick a zip tie at the end of the throttle cable, maybe I'll have time tonight between showers... before anyone asks, floor mat wasn't in the way.

Just stepped outside to throw the ball for my dog... damn is it nice.

I bought some of those headliner repair buttons awhile back. Think I'm gonna go see if I can fix the headliner.

Put a new heater blower motor & resistor in my ranger. Easy to get at once you remove the reservoir for antifreeze/washer fluid and the air filter box.

And if you get that pesky engine out of the way, you can reach all kinds of places in the engine bay.

So much more room for activities.

Doing a Stage 1 tidy in preparation of putting new seals in my spare transfer case. I'm lucky that this one lets me swap yokes with the Explorer's electric case.

Drove it to Best Buy after work to look at routers and didn't buy anything because the off the shelf plug and play consumer networking hardware is junk.
I'm going to find and salvage a used mini-PC and install PFsense or some other router software and add a switch.
