What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Getting some comparative data together would be good I think. It would give those of us with the 10r80 a lot better feeling of what the ideal.. not suggested by ford.. but the actual ideal tranny fluid change interval should be.

Even better would be If you havnt really towed anything substantial. I've got quite a few miles of max capacity operation with my truck, so it would be interesting to see what both fluids were like after the same overall miles.

All I’ve towed has been the 4X8 utility trailer. Even with it loaded down, it’s no where near giving the truck a work out. And I’ve not loaded the 2019 anywhere near what I’ve put in the bed of the 2011.

If I remember correctly, Ford quotes some ridiculous number like 100,000 or 150,000 miles before the first change.

took two bales af straw around back to the chicken kennel, have them inside along the wall that gets the most wind. The outside is tarped up so it should be pretty cozy for the birds this winter.

Well, I didn’t get much done to the Ranger, but I did tinker with it a bit. Tube bender I got for the heater lines seems to work pretty good. Still have a few bends to make

Yesterday I changed the radiator and swapped it back to the manual fan. I figured since the New radiator was leaking and the dezert racing guys I know say thr manual fan is better, now was a good time.Tthis morning at 3:00 I loaded it up on the trailer and went hunting. Put 25 ish miles on it. It did good, no more coolant smell. I got a video on one of the ridges I went up but not many pictures. I keep forgetting that part…

When in doubt if the fluid has ever been changed, change it.

The scariest phrase I’ve ever heard a vehicle owner say is “All I’ve ever had to do was change the oil.” Most likely, that’s exactly all they ever did...

coupes have 2 doors, mine has 4 so its more of a chicken sedan.
Seriously though, it gives them more room and used kennels can be got pretty cheap. Im thinking of getting another to make a 3-sided shed so I can free up some garage space.

Perfect. As long as both of us remember to get the tests done well have some good info lol.

But yeah, 150k is their reccomended interval. Absolutely insane.

I've heard old school transmission guys say many a time that if you let the atf go for too long (i.e, the pan magnet looks like wooly willy) you might as well not even change it.. because all the crap floating around in the fluid is helping make-up for loose mechanical tolerances. By changing the fluid at that point your taking a risk.

I've heard that backed up by plenty of stories claiming that.. 'yeah, once I changed that 130k mile atf my trans started slipping and I ended up losing such and such a gear' or whatever else.

I don’t see a problem. Our transportation dept has junked buses (E450 chassis) that still had the original ATF at 250K miles. These same buses also have the original rotors that have seen multiple pad slaps over the years.

I'd be interested in seeing a UOA done on that fluid..

This is the pan magnet out of my old '07 cvpi that had just over 100k on it, absolutely disgusting

Of course.. that transmission and the fluid it was filled with are both outdated tech by this point.

Made a bracket and installed my ebay oil catch can then checked for vacuum leaks, seems fine, idles at the same rpm, vacuum is good and afr is the same as before, so I think I'm good. Installed just in time to let it sit until the end of March or so...

I went over and checked out my uncle’s 2010 Ranger. He offered it to me for a very reasonable price. He’s got a new Ranger on order.
