What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

we took the topper off the ranger because my son said he likes it but only would like it on when we have to use it. its fine with me either way so we took it off. it worked out good because than i had to use the ranger to take my mountain bike to meet someone for an evening ride. its way easier to put the mountain bike in with no top on, thats for sure.

and the ranger feels a little quicker without the weight of the topper on so thats nice too

I have had good results with the POR15 type stuff as long as it is not exposed to direct sun, as it has no uv protection/resistance and will break down quickly in those locations.

I need to order some stuff from Bronco Graveyard and they have something like POR15 that says UV resistant, but I can always squirt some paint on whatever. I have to do some frame patches and when I’m done, I’d rather not have to deal with the frame for a few years. If I can put something on the frame to keep it rom getting worse, that’s what I want to do.

I’d like to pull the topper off my green one, but I think it’s going to have to stay on until I get the red one fixed. I need one truck with a topper for when I need waterproof locking mobile storage, lol. I like it without the top better, just a soft tonneau cover

i actually found a hard bed cover for a flareside in austin that i think would work great too but its a whole day to drive there and back. my son really likes that idea so maybe i will send him to get it because i think i will let him take the ranger when he goes active duty. he and his wife only have two smaller cars and i remember having a pick up in the army was better than when i had only a car.

i will just tell him its not his to trade in, if he wants to get rid of it than i will just fly up and bring it home. same deal as my other son with the wrangler. he just comes down and gets it when the weather is nice

Lol, I was in a sharing mood before I got wet trying to put the motor back together after multiple weather services said no rain in sight. I was not, however, very happy after getting wet.

Could have been worse, there was a rain shower this morning too that they weren’t calling for and as dad put it, would have been right around the time we would be finishing concrete, and sudden, hard and short enough to ruin the job and I remember the days of doing concrete well and that was one of the things we feared.

Sunday I aired up the tires on the '90 for the first time since March (they've been at offroading pressure since then...) and drove ~25 miles south to meet up with Mauispirit and attempted to get his '89 running enough to get shipped to Hawaii, we tried all we could with what was available, I'm pretty sure it was the TFI module but haven't heard...

Hopefully I’ll get to work on the Ranger some this afternoon. Gotta run some errands this morning.

On another note, I almost pulled the trigger on some chromoly D-35 shafts yesterday morning but wanted to look around a little first. It’s like $500 for a set and I’m not sure if that’s a good price or not so much. But after shattering a shaft at the 20th anniversary ride, I’m inclined to think they are a good idea or I need to upgrade the axle… again…

on the 2005 2wd the wheels need balancing, I pulled them off and started plucking the stones stuck in tread slits.
by the way Firestone Destination le2 are great hiway tires, but they retain tones of stones & pebbles.
removed the old stick-on weights, started cleaning the brake dust so new weights can be stuck on.
slapped on an old set of General AT2s to keep the ranger on the road for a few days.

yesterday I managed to place a shock bellows tube over the cracked cover to the steering universal joint.
