What did you do to your 2019 and up Ranger today?

Of the tires offered, the Copper Discoverer STT Pro was the cheapest option. Oh! Twist my arm! They should be delivered on Friday. Then I can start saving up for the All Terrain tires to put on the original set of rims for winter.

I got a set of Mastercraft A/T's (made by Cooper) at Smallwood's in Rochester for $180 apiece.

The ATs do tend to run cheaper than the mud tires from what I've seen. I'm looking at a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T4W tires. Center Exit has them for about $187. Those tires and their predecessor, the A/T3W, have very good reviews and is giving the KO2 a run for it's money in performance, durability against trail damage, and can handle standing pools of water way better than the KO2s.

I know several people running them and claim they are the best AT in all conditions. I personally have never run Maxxis tires. I did put a used set of Toyo Open Country AT2 Xtremes on used and was quite impressed on how quit they were. Even with only about 30 to 40% tread left. Performed really well in all conditions, too. I have the Nitto G2s. I've put about 25k on them. They seem to perform well in all cconditions, butmud. NNow, as far as longevity. They seem to be wearing very fast. Now i got these from a friend who pulled them off his Jeep. They had 9/16 tread depth, which i think i read 11/16 new. But for 400, i gave them a shot. All that being said, i haven't priced any, so I don't know what the going price or affordability of any of these

The big thing I'm focusing on is the sidewall plys. As far as I know, only the KO2 and the A/T3W or A/T4W offer a three ply sidewall. All the rest are two ply.

I'm guessing the KO3 will be three ply as well but they are so new that there isn't any review information on them yet as far as actual use and sizes a vailable are pretty limited at the moment.

While the mud terrains will take the brunt of the off road work, I do want to maintain the best off road capability during the winter months.

Plus, the Falkens have a better reputation for standing water at road speeds. Now that the KO2s have worn down some on the 2011, the water issue is starting to rear it's ugly head. They have been a fantastic tire up to this point, so this isn't a bash. The Falken tire price is so much better and it's reputation is on par with the KO2 as well as having better water characteristics. I just can't pass them up. They seem to be a win all the way around for an AT.

On the tire wear, the KO2 is rated for 50,000 miles and that seems to be holding true. The Falken A/3W, 55,000 miles but is being replaced by the A/T4W. The A/T4W is rated for 65,000 miles.

If my prepensity for reseaching the crap out of stuff and beating that horse into a bloody pulp isn't obvious yet, it's what I tend to do. Most of the stuff out their is opinion based on personal experiences but when the majority all seem to agree, that is the direction I tend to head.

A/T's are better in rain and snow than M/T's.
I wasn't real happy with the treadlife on my old Coopers so I said screw it, I'm just going to buy what's cheap.

Thus, why I want to run A/Ts in the winter. Tread design is a factor with the rain. The tread design on the Generals and BFGs tends to trap water (they share a similar tread design). The new KO3s seem to attempt to address the issue. The KO2s were great up until recently with the rain but now that they have had some miles on them and the tread has worn down, standing water during heavy rains has become a bit of a problem. Not a dangerous one but there is a marked difference from when they were new. I'm aware of the issue. So, and adjust accordingly while I still have them on the 2011.

On the mud tires, from what I've read, thread compound is a big thing as far as rain as well as siping. The STT Pros have a reputation of being pretty good in the rain and snow. I'll take rain aspect and run with it but not the snow aspect unless I have to. Mud tires in general do not have a great reputation when it comes to snow. Mud tires are designed to expel whatever is stuck in the tread voids, which is the opposite of what you want in a snow tire. Tread compound and siping can only do so much.

So, it's muds from late April through October and all terrains from October to April.

The KO2s have been a great winter tire and the Falkens are reported to be just as good. I'll lose the mud capability of the STTs but since the majority of my driving is on road and I don't mud bog, the ATs should do the job and the ability to handle snow well is a higher priority.

From what I remember, Maxxis RAZR AT is a good tire but I didn't look at them real hard. The wear life isn't great but a good overall tire. I would scrub through the reviews both online and on youtube before you buy.

Well they're 3PMS and have a 50k tread life warranty.

The A/T3W and A/T4W are 3PMS and have 55k and 65K, respectively. Go with what fits what you want and your budget. I used to like buying tires with a 40K tread life and never batted an eye. So, no harm, no foul.

Changed oil. Gonna switch to the FL-400S filter permanently I think. It's a little bigger.
Replaced driver's side low beam bulb. Oddly this is the second time that light has burned out.
Now the fun part....
The McGard lug nuts seem to tighten themselves. Tried to rotate the tires the other day and broke off the end of my breaker bar. Harbor Freight has a lifetime guarantee I think although I might not mention the 2 foot piece of pipe I had on the end. Took it to my bud's tire shop this morning and they promptly stripped the lock nut key. Will try to talk McGard into a free key. Gonna give up on lock nuts I think.

Well after the Round Mountain trip, I noticed a popping noise coming from the rear. I assumed it was the leafs since they've been squeaking since aboutv6 months after install. After further investigation I was correct. Last weekend I made a quick run down to GA and picked up a set that already had an add a leaf installed. So after work yesterday I tackled swapping them. When removing the old ones I noticed that the add a leafs were cutting into the mono leaf. Driver side had dang near collapsed down to the overload leaf and was banging off the bump stop. Glad to say swap went fairly easy. You will need a 21mm wrench to get the driver side off due to gas tank being right beside it. Now all done no squeak and back up high in the rear.

If you look you can see the bend in the front of the old leaf. Have no clue how that could happen hahaha. Speed bumps at the mall are getting out of hand. Plus these add a leafs have the round pads at the end to prevent them from rubbing into the mono leaf and notice how much longer they are. He ordered his through Stage 3 motorsports. I got mine from American truck. If you zoom in you can see where they had been cutting into the mono leaf. Not long and it would have broke.

I have a friend with the multileaf Taco factory springs. He says they are way too soft on the Ranger. He told me he hits the bump stops just driving on paved roads sometimes. Trust me I was on the fence since you can grab some OEM Taco springs for around a 100 a set on FB Marketplace.

Well Saturday night a local offroad club reached out and asked me to show them around. Of course I accepted. I've been wanting to do a night ride again. So I called my buddy and we headed out. Always nice to have a tail gunner who you trust. Turned out they were more of a Jeep group than offroad haha. But we had a good time. Plus Avery Jeep group needs a Ranger to lead themhahaha
plus i needed to test out the leafs offroad.
