So I'm done putting new rod bearings in my 98 3.0 Ranger and when I go to put the oil pan back on I find 10 or so needles from a bearing in the pan. Are these from the wrist pin or from somewhere in the valve train? I'm stumped as to where to go from here. Any ideas?

Uh, there aren't any needle bearings inside the engine.

I didn't think so. I wonder how they ended up in the pan. They definitly are from a needle bearing. Thanks for the quick response.

bearings

They were put in the pan at the engine assembly plant, 98- 99 was a contract year for labor my 2.5 had a large piece of wood in the oil pan, along with some other not so well done assemblies

pilot bearings have needles, but its kinda hard to get one of those in the crankcase. especially if you have an auto tranny.
