Thought I read something about these bellhousings being pretty needed in an engine conversion..

I want to say that’s used for v8 swaps with ford small blocks. But don’t take my word as gospel on that one.

The front pump bolts to the bell housing on a C3 and needs to be precisely sligned using a Ford spaecial tool. And I would never put a C3 behind a V8. Are you talking about a C4 bell housing?

the Ford C3 was a light duty 3 speed automatic for use behind 4 cyl and 6 cyl cars and trucks. I can't find any use for it other than using it for a C3 transmission.

I thought C4 was a plastic explosive.

They improved the C3, gave it overdrive... and called it "A4LD"

A C3 behind a V8 would fit Eric's analogy of C4 high explosive.

The C5 transmission was a lightly updated C4 transmission (which is fairly legendary) It was also used in 83-84 RBV's with a V6. You can switch bellhousings with a C4 (or a factory V8 C5) and keep your factory transmission crossmember, transfer case and driveshaft(s) It is the only real feasible way to use a Ranger transmission behind a V8.

I had a C5 with a V8 and the stock 1350 tcase, it worked well. I only replaced it with a 5 speed to gain overdrive.

After doing a google for that part number I would rate it not super desirable for a swapper. It is is for the older 5 bolt bellhousing V8's. Nothing really wrong with them but you would limit yourself to like the first 5 years of SBF production. A 6 bolt bellhousing would fit most 1965-2001 SBF V8's.

So how hard would it be to drop a carbureted chevy motor and transmission and transfer case in a gen 1 ranger….. asking for a friend..🤣 lol

They do the same crap, nobody talks about it though.

That's the servo cover ID number, not the trans ID. The "C" indicates the 60's, the "3" is for 63, the first year that part was used, the first "A" identifies the model- in this case fulll size car, the second "A" would usually be a Z for a Ford part or a Y for a Mercury part, I suspect "A" was for both, 6394 is the base number, indicating what the part is- 6731 would be an oil filter, 6009 is a block, for example. The "C" after the base number indicates the specific variant of the base number. The first 4 characters are the prefix, followed by the base number that will be 4 digits or more, then the suffix which can be one digit or more. In the 2000's, the prefix format changed when Ford tried to make things global . C5ZZ would have indicated a part first used in a 65 Mustang, now 2 digits indicate the model and I don't know the breakdown.

It's easy, lower the tailgate, lift the grenade/sbc with a motor crane, then drop it in the bed. Throw the other stuff in beside it. After they weigh your truck someone at the salvage yard will probably help you unload. Then they'll weigh your truck again and pay you for the scrap metal
