i have a 2000 2.5 5spd ranger she wont allow me to go faster than 95, i was looking at those jet chips and i was wondering if that will solve my problem to allow her to exceed her govrn.

yeah that's what I was going to ask too. Why do you need to go faster then 95 in a pickup unless you are at a drag strip? Are you trying to live FAST, love hard & die YOUNG?

Without judgement, I'm nearly certain any of the performance chips (except those worthless ebay resistors) will remove the governor. I had a superchip and it did remove the governor, but had problems with it due to connectivity issues on the computer's circuit board. I suggest spending the extra $100 and get a programmer instead. This will give you more options, the ability to turn it back without having to remove the computer (to physically remove the chip), and will also give you a code reader if/when it throws codes. I wish I'd have gone with the reader first, as I ended up buying one after the chip went bad. With the programmer, you can set it for different grades of gas as well, so if gas shoots up too high you can set it back in about 40 seconds.

Gas engines typically pick up a small percentage of power chipped up, but diesels pick up a TON. If you have an auto tranny, the chip or programmer should tighten up the shifts and will be more noticeable than the power increase. Turbo, blower or nitrous is the only way to get real power, and the last has serious consequences on how long the engine may live.

+100 on the programmer vs a chip.

In addition to the mentioned adjustments, you can also compensate for tire size changes, gear changes, or any of a host of other options.

The programmer is light years better than a chip.

How bout more power (for climbing) for a 88 2.9 ?

Chip, programmer, NOS ?

Off thread topic..

Sorry, but the best way to get more power out of the 2.9 is to yank it and put a 4.0 in its place.

The difference between the two doesn't look that big on paper, but believe me it is HUGE. Lotsa torque.

Plus, with the tech help of the guys on this site, I'd bet you could do the 4.0 swap for about the same $$$ as the power adders you mentioned and get a far greater return..
