I got a new 88 Ranger,
Standard cab, 5speed, 2.9,
I was wondering what axle/ratio is in it? I;m think 7.5 and 3.77? thanks

look inside the door for the axle code. compare that to the info in the tech library... or just post it here.

ok soon as i go up there where my ranger is at Ill take a look,
The good thing is that Ill be bringing my Ranger home in a few days, So no more of me sayin "sure, as soon as i go up there where my ranger is"

How Is This Repeated? I posted like this a little while ago but it was for my dads F-150, not a ranger

And How Is It Needless? I want to know cause I want a locker

so get your info straight, no offence, just saying

I wouldn't entirely trust the door tag or even the axle tag if you really, really want to be sure, truck is 20 years old by now. Compare the shape of the housing and count the driveshaft revolutions to that of the axle.

I was searching, on trs! figured it's my mav site so I'd ask here, Hopefully my truck will come home tomorrow, so i should find out then

TECH LIBARY, Axle tags, door tags, measure the ring gear, look at the diff cover even.

Not to be an asshole, but I'm tired of seeing your threads all over TRS.

Start ONE build thread, and ask your questions there. You can show off your MS paint skills there, you can ask your questions there, you can build up your post count there.

Not beein an asshole, just sayin.

It's kind of hard checkin my door when the truck is 20 minutes away,
Ijust thought that all 88 2.9 rangers had the same axle and that somebody could tell me what it is

sorry dude

The same axle yes, the same gear ratio no. It will be a 7.5" unless someone swapped it out for an 8.8...as for gear ration you will need to look at the tag on the diff or the code on the door sticker.

ok thanks, but why would it be different ratio's? even if its all the same truck?
seems a bit weird to me :icon_twisted:

To make up for different tire sizes and different tow capacities.

Somebody that just drives their truck around empty wouldn't need the same gearing as someone who pulls their boat every weekend.
