I have a 2005 xl 2wd. Is the axle on this truck the standard 7.5?
I am trying to figure if i can run a lock rite in here, so does this year accept the locker?

Thanks

4-cylinder engine?

definitely 7.5" axle

for the record, if the truck has a 4 cylinder or 2.8/2.9/3.0L engine it has a 7.5" axle (there's a few exceptions on certain packages but if it's just a plane jane ranger this is true) and if it has a 4.0L it has an 8.8" axle

It used to be: 2.3L = 7.5" guaranteed, but the '11 model seems to have put an end to that lol.

'98up 3.0 Supercab & 4WD trucks got 8.8s, as did some '90-'92 2.9L trucks (those with 3.55 gears for example).

I don't believe any 3.0L trucks before '98 had 8.8s (though who knows with Ford lol).

The only "guaranteed" still left is: 4.0L = 8.8" (which of course doesn't take into account swaps after the truck already left the factory).

What gears come stock the 2.9? I thought I read 3.73 somewhere but could be wrong.

it's completely random it seems, go HERE and look up what you have, either on the door sticker or the axle tag both of which are covered on that page.

Yup (at least according to the '11 brochure along with the vehicle builder thing on their site, I've yet to actually crawl underneath one to look though).

I also just fixed a mistake I posted earlier up above about pre-'98 3.0L trucks (you guys are slackin' man lol, surprised no one else caught that :D  ). ALL 'pre-'98 3.0L trucks should have 7.5s.
