Hello all,
Could someone tell me what these two red vacume lines are for n what they do? They both come out of a black cover line n have been cut. One went to this little hook up sticking out from the side of a thing sticking up from that silver bar there and the other to a ball looking thing behind right headlight area Ione of the lines is resting on top of the tit with the cut end). But don't know which line goes to what. Why would anyone cut them.? Thanks

Just a guess but the ball thingy is prolly a vac canister that holds and ensures constant vacuum to the vac operated gates in the heating/air conditioning system. If that system isn't working properly than that would be a go!
For sure hook them back up again.

Jesus dude didn't you ever hear of a water hose and a pressure wash?

Big Jim

Look on the rad support top plate there will be a vacuum hose diagram for your engine/model.

The "ball thing" is the vacuum reservoir

They are most likely to be climate control vacuum hoses
You can buy small inside diameter "rubber" hose which you can slide on to each end to "splice them"
They don't look cut, they look like they got hot and dry and cracked

Thanks y'all. I thought this site was supposed to notify me of responses but it didn't. I will check my settings.

Big Jim, it is not running, been sitting up at the Paper Mill for a few years, and it is covered with dust inside and out, engine, everything. My son bought it in an auction for 200 bucks or so. They got it running before he bought it but the battery is bad. We just towed it home a couple of days ago and got to get a battery. It has no breaks either. He ws told the break line is busted so got to get that fixed. I just ordered an owner's manual for it off of ebay. Gonna get one of those Haynes manuals too.

Both the red lines come out of a black plastic tube so do y'all reckon they come out of a common vacuum pump? And if so and they have equal pressure then seems it wouldn't matter which line I hooked up to the two spots they came from. What do y'all think? The two red lines have been cut. Three of the ends are cut at a clean diagonal angle the one is cut like that but is a bit chewed on the end. Yes I will fix them but not sure which line goes to what. Or as I mentioned does it matter if they both come from the same source?

The lines go like this: The vac source is the intake, SOMEWHERE! You will have to fine the source. THAT line goes to the round thingy! Then the other line goes from the round thingy to the firewall and thru the firewall to the a/c system.
Now the round thingy has a ONE WAY VALVE inside one of the two ports. The line from the intake goes to the one way valve. The reason is the round thingy holds the highest vac that the engine can produce. As the vac goes lower from time to time the higher vac in the round thingy stays high and doesn't leak backwards into the intake. This keeps your a//c working while driving up a long hill.
To test these parts I simply put a rubber hose on each line and SUCK on it. If the line is open or if it is closed tells me where the other end is.

Isn't one of those to the fuel pressure regulator (or the hookup sticking up from the silver bar thingy)? lol :)

Jeremsdad, yes. Big Jim, the ball thing does indeed have two lines and the one going to the firewall is intact. The one going up to the engine where you can see the end in that pic is the only one from the ball that is cut. The two lines coming from the left that you see both come out of that black plastic sleeve you see them sticking out of. One of those connected to the line coming from the ball and the other to that thing you see stiing out that one of the left ones is resting on. I laid it there for the sake of the pic. But which goes to the ball line and which goes to the tit sticking out one of them is laying on. OR, if both the ones coming from the left come from the same source, does it matter which thing they are hooked to, the ball or the tit on the silver bar as Jeremysdad said. You can't see it in the pic because it is blockd from view by the other line I laid on it, but there is about a quarter inch or so of red line sticking out of that tit. It has the same diagonal cut as others. My son things a rat did it. He found a rat's nest in there somewhere. I saw the remnants of it. But they look clean cut at an slanted angle. I will take more pics. Off to church. Thank y'all for your time. I will be back. Until then have a great day.

Hello again. I traced the two lines back which both stick out of a plastic sleeve. I traced them back and they come out of the other end of the sleeve as one the fat red line that goes into the back of the intake, on top rear of engine. I reckon that is what it is. So I wonder if it matters which end of them I hook to the ball-tank and the tit on silver bar alongside of top of engine? Here are the pics I took:

I fixed them. Since they both split from one line that comes from the rear of the intake manifold.

Went and got a battery today and it cranked right up and ran like a top. Been sitting up for a couple of years. Surprised me that it runs that smooth. I thought it was a 2001 but according to that Haynes Manual chart showing the 10th figure in the vin number as being the year, if it is correct then this truck is a '93 model. Dang, what a surprise.
