what 2wd transmission for 2.9l

Not sure if I'll get hammered here for posting in this section but I figure the best place to ask is guys who know the 2.9l best. (89 engine, 92 body with push button 4wd installed)

I need to change to change my tranny out to a 2wd inorder to connect my suzuki samurai tcase to it. I guess the 2wd tranny will allow me to mate up to the divorced tcase.

I need to know what trans I can use and out of what car so I know where to look.

some ideas that have been tossed around are the
4.0l, 2.9l, 2.8l trans. I just don't know what cars. Also, will the c4/c5 tranny bolt up.

I know the C4 and C5 are pretty similar - Might research what it would take to use a C5 bell from a 2.8L since it shares the same pattern as the 2.9L. As far as the 4x4 stuff, that's not my thing, but guessing there's some shaft between the bastard transfer case and the 2wd trans that would need to be modified/custom to fit the zuki transfer case. Will have to get under there with a tape measure and guesstimate with the transmission length that you pick to determine if the drive shafts will need modified.

I did a google search and found this bit of info for you

The bellhousing you want is a C5 auto from a 2.8L Capri, or early BII/Ranger 2wd. I believe the Mustang also had a 2.8l/C5 combo. I believe there is also a C5 behind some of the pinto engines Good luck! They are getting harder and harder to find, the flywheel I believe is the hardest part to locate.
