What’s for dinner tonite!

Tonights supper was:
Cold hot dogs with ketchup on White bread.View attachment 123208
While setting on my bed.
I eat 6 of them.

Try cutting them up into small discs and frying them up. Then mix them into some macaroni and cheese. Still a meal on a budget and gives one some variety in taste.

Or chop them up and fry them into some scrambled eggs and shredded cheddar cheese.

Oh, yeah. Forgot about egg prices. I'm going to the grocery store later this afternoon.
Wish me luck.

If you think eggs are bad where you are (yes I know about the bird flu, etc)... try Colorado... as of Jan 1 all eggs sold retail must be cage free. Jumped from $2.99 to $6.99 /dozen overnight and while I refuse to buy em, I have heard people talking $9 and $10 a dozen.... Politicians are looking at reversing the law, but as far as I understand it is only retail, so now it is cheaper to get a plate of eggs at a restaurant than it is to cook em at home.

It also makes it a whole lot more sense to drive all the way to Sidney NE for groceries too.

$6 is about normal price around here for regular eggs. I actually ended up buying a dozen cage free eggs recently because they were $5…

All this conversation because I had cold hot dogs last night when I got home at 9:30 p.m. and left the house at 5:00 a.m.

Besides that I don't even got an oven stove top or nothing just a microwave.

We can make conversation about anything on here, lol

Microwave really limits cooking options. If I could only have one kitchen appliance I’d probably go with an air fryer oven. That gives you a variety of cooking options.

That said, personally I find it kind of relaxing after a long day to fire up my portable flat top grill and cook something up. That flat top lives in my truck with a 20# propane tank. My favorite cooking appliance right there and I can take it anywhere.

You will find that "thread drift" ( the unintentional wandering off-topic of a thread) is an Olympic sport around here. Some threads are like a conversation in the break room at work or around a campfire. Enjoy.

I understand that we can talk about whatever we want.
I'm just glad I posted something that really got a conversation started.

Okay got to get back to work.

FWIW, last night was "smothered steak" (recipe on the back of a can of golden mushroom from 1960) - cheap round steak breaded, pan fried, then baked smothered in golden mushroom... it's one of my mom's staples (she was part of the feminist revolution when they refused to spend any real time cooking and just threw together stuff from canned/powdered etc - part of that whole late '50's to 60's women gonna work and not be house-wives).

I'd call that a step above micro/cold hot dogs, but I get you haven't had any chance to practice your culinary skills in a while and your palate has had to tolerate pretty dang horrible bad food too.

Night before that was "skillitini" - rip off copycat of Johnny Carino's plate by the same name (just google "copycat skillitini")

Tonight is a real cheap easy, "cowboy mac" - 1/2# of hamburger browned and mixed into a box of mac-n-chz then heavily seasoned with black pepper.

I spent several years as a waiter and line cook in college, including moving to the "back of house" and doing prep cook / salad... so while not formally trained at a french cuisine place or college, I can definitely hold my own in the kitchen... I spent 10 years refusing to eat any eggs at all due to cooking about 1000 of em each sunday morning.

I tend not post any recipe / picture that is not a new adventure (since post #1 said new and picture)... hence I tend to be kinda quiet on this particular thread - I got lots of well practices recipes in my stock.

Pro tip on the nuclear dogs Doug, wrap 1-2 dog in 1/2 sheet of paper towel, microwave on a more medium than high setting longer than you would full power (like 99 seconds on 60-70%) - heats it more evenly, doesn't overcook it, leaves more moisture in it while still getting it up to full temp evenly.

Thanks for the microwave cooking tip Brain.
Now I just got to figure out how to change the power settings on my microwave.

What do you mean unintentional? It’s sometimes very intentional.

I think he was giving us all a little wiggle room with that one.
