Hi folks,

Just noticed my passenger floor-boards and carpet on my '94 XLT 4x4 (ext. cab) were good and wet when I pulled the truck back to get the lawn mower out. It does NOT smell like anti-freeze (a smell I know all too well from experience with this truck), and I just had the coolant system flushed and filled earlier this week, and got new heater and radiator hoses installed so I don't believe the heater core is leaking. I pealed back the carpet to dry it out and ran the truck with heater on high for a few minutes, and did not see anything dripping.

Pretty sure I just discovered what it is... It rained pretty good last night and when I came out this morning there was plenty of standing water on the hood (waxed it about 2 weeks ago). I popped the hood to inspect my steering hose job from last night... and watched all that water dump into the vents in the cowl, where the washer fluid nozzles are... Will that find it's way inside the cab down to the floor boards? It's also possible I have a bad door seal or something I suppose, but does that water-into-cowl vent theory sound right?

Thanks!

-Bill

I cannot say for sure you have my problem. But on my truck there is a hole about 3 inches below the windshield all the way on the passenger side coming in from that drain channel where the wind shield wipers are.

I had to pull the dash off to even see it. it was so crammed into the corner there is very little i can do to actually fix the steel. so I smothered (and i do mean smothered) the hole in silicon sealant. I painted it in to the corner with a pain brush.

A secondary problem arose from that hole on my truck. It had been pouring water onto the EEC-IV computer behind the passenger side panel on the floor and corroded that computer bad enough that I had to replace it. The IAC had failed and the Overdrive refused to work. The new one is bagged =>

So if that sounds like your problem I would look over the computer behind that panel. if its damp pull its cover see if its on its way out or not.

Thanks Nhaz, I'll take a look and see if that's what it is. I did dump some water down the cowl vent and it all came out underneath so my original theory didn't quite pan out.

I did notice this evening though that my passenger door doesn't close quite flush with the supercab panel. I closed some boxboard in the door, and there is a bit of a gap there. I'm going to look into tightening up the door latch a bit on that side and see if that helps too. It's been raining every day for a week or two now so even a small leak could be possible.

I don't think so - no antifreeze smell at all, and I didn't see any drips at all when I pulled back the carpet and ran the heater full blast for a few minutes. I also just had the coolant flushed and filled, and the radiator and heater hoses replaced so there shouldn't be any excessive pressure in the lines or anything.
