They have so reduced the options and combonations of power trains available, I can see why it might die. I was just interested in the manuals but this is a good idea of what is available. Sure not much selecttion left for the buyer anymore. Never under stood why they can't (won't) put a 4.10 where the 3.55 is standard. Disc brakes nice but no limited slip?

LS gone due to standard traction-control.

*Price was not the primary reason I bought a "leftover" 2009 in late December rather than one of the 2010s that were already on the lots. :fie:

I have traction control in my Sport Trac and in the deep snow we had in February it sucked.

If the Ranger Traction Control is like the Mustangs, all it does is apply braking to the one wheel that is slipping. I would want a good true mechanical type that does transfer power, not take it away.

Ditto. I strongly dislike these new brake lock differentials and traction control systems that just apply the brakes. It's simple and reasonably effective but it's never going to replace a rear locker, and certainly not a system that actually distributes power directly to wheels with traction.

Ford's decision to kill the Ranger will be very beneficial in the short term, but long-term it's ceding tens of thousands of customers to Toyota. Who buys compact trucks? Often youthful guys that want a tough truck. What does killing all the options on the Ranger do? Well, it looks good on Ford's pocketbook, but it means that those that want a tough 4x4 wind up with a Tacoma TRD or Nissan Pro4x, and many of those will become loyal to their brand and harder to win back.

I looked at the options on the site too. It's depressing. So many of the Rangers you see in the stock photos on sites like Edmunds and Autoblog are actually FX4 models, and you can't even custom order one like that any more...

...And Ford likely won't even put in the funds to add an Ecoboost for its last year of production.

i agree on ya with the youths wanting a tough truck. im 17 and my first pickup i bought was a 99 silverado had bout 160,000 miles on her. she ran good but tranny was going out. so i sold her and bought me my 99 Danger Ranger. i love her to death. its tough and for some reason it wont blow the engine. these trucks are meant ford tough and built to last. ive red lined her alot and held in first red line for like 10 secs. wouldn't blow.

Ford Rangers "Lead the way, All the way" ! Hooah lol.

It seems like ford is doing to the ranger what GM did to the Chevette.

When GM built the Chevette in the first place It was a quality car (Trust me I own a 78) Untill they got to 1980. Then GM started to cheapen up the line by using less quality materials, then the options started becoming harder to find on the lot, then the dealerships wanted to sell more of the high end cars, Then the customers who actually bought them were treated like crap because they didn't buy the higher priced model. That is how the Chevette got its poor reputation.

It seems like Ford has started the same thing with the Ranger, Downsizing the options, making them hard to find with options on the lot, and pursuadeing customers to buy there oversized F-150 instead, treating ranger customers like crap.

Ford ought to get there heads out of there ass and try to market the Ranger better, because Not everyone wants an F150. Compact trucks are an excellent market and I think that ford would be stupid by letting those hundreds of thousands in the compact truck market go to toyota, or nissan.

The thing that *!&@!#$ me off was Consumer Reports showing the Rigdeline as a compact truck. It is actually a XUV built on a minivan platform.
I personally boycot Consumer Reports because for some reason I think the Japanese auto manufactures are paying them off.

I WANT MY FX4 LEVEL II when I can afford it.

PLEASE FORD. DON'T KILL THE RANGER FOR A UNIBODY PILE OF CRAP PRETENDING TO BE A TRUCK

As a young guy (22) who just bought a brand-new Ranger a couple months ago, I'm inclined to agree. I knew I wanted a Ranger before I started shopping, but I test-drove the Canyon and Tacoma, and made a real effort to give them a fair chance.

Chevy/GMC actually built the closest truck to what I wanted for equipment/options, but the truck itself was lousy...and not sufficiently cheaper than the Ford, I didn't think, given that it was down two cylinders.

I didn't like the Tacoma enough to want to own one (and, really, don't think I couldn't have brought myself to buy one even if I had liked it), but they also did a better job than Ford of building the truck with the options I wanted. And, though it may be a regional thing, they had a much better selection of Tacomas, including sticks in different trim levels, on the lot. I wasn't buying an automatic, and from my research, there were fewer than five 5-speed, 4x4 Rangers in the state.

It seems like ford is doing to the ranger what GM did to the Chevette.

I'd have to agree with this, too.

I've got a '97 that I absolutely love. The '09 is nice...it's brand-new, equipped as about as close to what I wanted as Ford builds anymore, but in a lot of ways I don't like it as well the '97. Mostly little detail stuff in the interior...I could type out a pretty long list, if I set my mind to it. A whole lot longer than the list of stuff that improved, for sure...that one's pretty short (steering, mostly- I do like that rack and pinion).

i feel you guys. im gonna have to break down and get a taco........ i know..........but i gotta swollow my pride and take care of little head. and i need a real back seat for a car seat

Yep. I love ford rangers. As a young guy (20) i always have liked compact/ midsize pickups more even tho many people including my friends tend to think full size is better. Well guess what ford. I dont want a full size. But the new rangers are over due for a redesign to alittle bigger truck. When i have enough money someday i want a new Tacoma TRD off road because of the size and power. Ford is gonna lose their customer base long term because besides the mustang i dont want anything else from them. Too bad they got rid of the FX4 Level 2. The best ranger yet.
