went muddin, truck wont start

Did this year have the fuel cutoff switch? Just a thought seeing as you say your not getting any gas and a big bounce could cause it to trip open. I don't remember where the switch is. But if you have the owners manual it should tell you. All you have to do is press the button on top.

Passenger side above the floor pan a bit- maybe behind the carpet. If you smell gas it is probably pumping it- but you said the plug was dry... shoot a little starting fluid in there and see if it rocks off. Check the inertia anyway tho, most likey culprit. If it is determined you aren't getting gas and the inertia isn't tripped, check the fuel pump relay next.

starter fluid? the switch wasnt tripped, where is the fuel pump relay?

FP relay is under the hood, close to the master cylinder in a plastic relay box. You don't even have to buy another one, just switch it with another relay in the box.

You can buy starting fluid anywhere, wal-mart, vatozone, etc. Spray a little in the air filter and see if she goes.

Also- did you check the timing with your finger during the compression/spark test?

nothing happened when i traded out the fuel pump relay with another thingy but nothing happened

I'd pull a plug again and see if it is wet. If not, I'll bet it isn't getting gas for some reason. Take the air ducting off of the throttle body, dump about two thimblefuls of gas straight into the throttle body (you may have to open the butterfly to shoot it in there) then put the ducting back on and see if it fires. If it does and then runs the gas out and dies, you know it isn't getting gas. You must figure out what is wrong first so you can begin the proper diagnose and repairs. I'll be away from the computer all week, but I'll try to help you on it tonight before I go... if you want I'll give you my number for tech support...

do what the guy up top said the INERTIA SWITCH. it cuts the fuel if you get in a wreck or beat the ranger around hard as hell. all gotta do is push the red button

If you have compression, proper timing, spark and fuel it should go. I would be checking the timing again- also maybe pull all the plugs and make sure you don't have a dead cylinder.

Also- when you turn the key on, do you hear the "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT" of the fuel pump pressuring up near the rear of the truck? You've got to listen closely for this sound and it only does it for a few seconds right when you first turn the key on. That will let you know if the fuel pump is working.

Have you put a gauge on the fuel rail yet? That was suggested a while back.

Does it act like it fires every once in a while as you crank it? If so, test your coil. I had the same problem, it acted like it wanted to start, and when I checked for spark I had spark. It ended up not having enough spark.

Testing procedure can even be found on Autozone's online repair manual.

Good luck
