So I have the 195F thermostat in, and the Heavy Duty fan clutch.
Now my engine will not get up to normal, it stays below the N all the time in traffic and highway.

So the engine is not getting up to the right temp.

Heavy duty fan clutch...............

Well the problem it's causing is now the engine is being to cold.
The other guys from this forum told me this wouldn't happen.

I mean this would be awesome if I lived in texas.

Well either the temp gauge or sender is bad or the T-stat is stuck open.
What does the heater temp feel like, too cold, so gauge is right?

The t-stat is the only low temp control in the system so it either maintains the min 200deg or its broken.

Fan can't do anything about low temp on the engine, it only provides more cooling after engine gets above operating temp.
Radiator has no circulation until t-stat opens so.....it can't change temp until that happens.

I have found that "new" no longer means "it works"
"new" now means "never tested", lol.

If t-stat is new then it looks like it worked once, it opened, now it is stuck that way.
Cold engine, remove rad cap, start engine.
If you see circulation then t-stat is open, and it shouldn't be.
And there is a chance that you ended up with a 160deg t-stat by mistake, it happens, wrong spring installed and it's opening to soon.

Are you sure you have the thermostat in correct, coolant may be leaking by the thermostat not allowing it to come up to temp?

I'll pull the themo in the morning and check it. That housing is such a pain in the ass to get off with that one bolt.

Go put a thermostat in a Duratech 2.3L Fusion or Focus. Then see how bad that one bolt on the 4.0 seems.

I do, still not awesome. It uses more gas

Check the temp of the water in the radiator.

Then go from there.

Using a pot of boiling water and a thermometer is always an easy way to make sure nobody screwed your thermostat up at the factory as was suggested above.

I'll second that. Or try an Oldsmobile with a Quad 4 and an automatic...:bawling:

You know what was a nice thermostat? The 3.8L X-body Nova. Right out in the open, 3 bolts, pop it off, good to go.

1984 Pontiac Fiero.... Right at the top of the engine there was the thermostat cap. Pop the cap, pull the thermostat out, push the new one in. Done (so long as the gasket was good - still easy if bad though.

I just heard a cool trick for testing the thermostat. put a string in the valve and then while hanging it in a pan of water hold a meat thermometer next to it and watch the thermometer and note the temp the thermostat falls off the string. I just tested a 143 degree thermostat for a outboard and it fell off almost exactly at 143 degrees.
