Well the tags and stickers are gone

86 ford ranger 5speed 4x4 the tags and stickers are gone on my diffsso ow do i find out what axles and gear ratios i have?? any help would be appreciated

If you have the original tag on the door or b-pillar you can look for the axle code and then look here, about halfway down the page;

the sticker is gone

jack up the rear, spin the tire one full turn and count the number of revolutions the drive shaft makes. 3 1/2 turns=3.45, 3 3/4 turns=3.73, 4 turns=4.10 gears... irrc.

Pull the cover off the rear end...... the gear ratio is stamped on the ring gear!!!!

while your at it you can replace the gear lube and check for damage.

you have to spin both tires at the same speed to do that right unless its a tight posi...

..the ratio is not always directly on the gear....

but rather the number and its divider..

.and you do the math.

thank you everyone i hace a nice little coinedence happened i opened up a little zippered bag i found under the drivers seat it had the diff tags in it soo wooohoo 3.73 gears

^^ you can tell the difference between the 7.5 and 8.8 as well as the d28 and d35 by the outside appearance, but that won't tell you what gears you have inside really. my axles are completely stock looking at them, but inside are my 4.56 gears and a Detroit locker in the rear.
