well as some of you know i snapped my timing belt a while ago and never quite had it running right again. when i went to put in new plugs & fix an exhaust leak, after we got done it wouldn't start so we took it to the shop to figure out what was wrong and the guy at the shop said it was probably the ignition module on my computer so they got a new one on there and that was $600 for that & it still wouldn't start so they did a compression test and they said the 3 out of the 4 cylinders had bad compression and they tore it all down and found the valves were bent on the three (I was driving this when we put the new spark plugs in, even with the valves bent, bad idea, i know but i didn't know that they were bent) the shop said they have to take it to another shop to have the valve job done which is gonna cost another G so my grandpa who i got the truck from & who is paying for the repair said "Hell that truck aint even worth $1600" so we told them to keep it because we don't have the money to fix it & he would rather just buy me another truck, so this is where I'm at and here are my options

tell me if these are worth it, possibility #1

& possibility #2

i have already talked to the guy about the f150 and he said he is just ready to get rid of it and said he would come off the price quite a bit if someone got serious about it

lemme know what you think, I'm kind of leaning towards the first of the two

Id say check the ranger out first. Unless you are mechanically inclined. It sounds like the reason he is getting rid of the f-150 is because it has too many problems. Then again he may also know nothing about cars...Being the year it might have 275k....maybe 175k...the ranger has 40k on engine.

I too would also look at the ranger before the f150. you are asking for a huge gas bill w/ the f150. plus working on carbs sucks...

To me, the f150 would be a great play truck but not that great for daily driving.

Or just get a head and upper gasket kit for the Ranger.

I'm partial to 4th gens, so I say go for the ranger. I love mine.

i figured that would be consensus, i talked to my grandpa about both trucks and he said he would rather get me the ranger so maybe

just curious.....why the **** a ignition module would cost $600 to repair when its a 20 min fix on a 2.3..........

also....the 2.3 is a non interference motor....which means the valves SHOULDNT be bent.....i know i pick up fords with 2.3's all day long with snapped belts in them people assuming the motor is toast......just sounds ot me like they didnt put it back together right (alinging the timing marks) and since that isnt setup properly of course they wont have the proper compression because the valves are opening at the wrong time.....personally....id be gettin myself a lawyer because that shop is tryin to put u through the ringer.....

i replaced the timing belt and when i put it on it jumped a quarter of a turn every time i turned it, and the ignition module on mine couldn't be taken out because it was tied into the computer, so the new computer was 300 and the labor was about 250-300

Thats weird, I just bought that same computer for $25 last month.

It was used and had less then 100k on it. www.car-part.com

well the dumb ass @ the shop ordered a new one from ford and the only one they had, was in Pennsylvania

Yeah, MOST (not all) mechanics are borderline retarded.

My CEL kept coming on for the evap purge valve circuit malfunction.
I'm not sure what was wrong with the computer to cause it, but replacing the computer fixed it.

I do like the looks of that F-150, but if it was me I would go for the Ranger, because of the low miles on the motor and better gas milage. But its going to be your truck so get what you want, not what people tell you to get.

my grandpa said the f150 was to old for me to drive daily so if i get anything it'll probably be the ranger

Regardless of how it's timed, you CANNOT bend the valves like that. Find another shop. You're getting screwed repeatedly.
