well sometimes fate just says here u go now with pics

Well yesterday i found out that the part truck i was planning on buying was sold to someone else, it had a bad tranny, bad carb but had the good front clip i was lookin for. now for those of u who read my thread i was kinda upset. well this mornin i happened across an ad for another fist gen 1984 ranger sweet, so i call the guy drive 45 mins to look at it and i knew i had to have it. :yahoo: All i had to do is give her a battery some gas and oil and i drove it all the way back home without one prob runs so strong i cant believe it, thing will do 70 up a seven percent grade and still had more, clutch perfect good brakes solid shifting manual 4 speed. the only prob i have found is that when shut off hot it will diesel on me, and if I start it while its still hot it shudders, and shakes till I get going. So by now u realize the same thing i came to realize, I didn't buy a part truck, I brought home a new project so now I just gotta get her runnin right, already gave her a new air filter, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, passenger headlight, batt terminals, bought carb rebuild kit, a good project for Monday. but now i still have to replace the front clip of my 83. So this is my plan:icon_welder: take front clip off 84 put on the 83, than do a second gen swap on the 84, and maybe a step side in the future, If anyone has any ideas of what might be causing it to run rough, I would love the input and what emissions S#$T can i get rid of without changing carb, and dist:icon_confused: everything for emissions is still intact but no belt on air pump.

will post pics of both trucks soon

with all the new parts you've installed, it still sputters when started hot, and diesels?

try running a good heavy concentration of injector/carb cleaner through, like a bottle to 1/4 tank or less, just make sure you have a jerry can full of clean gas to put in incase it's too strong and doesn't want to run... what's the mileage? i'll bet the heads and piston are all carboned up... if this doesn't work, you could try pouring 2L of water into the intake... take a 2L bottle, and start the truck up, let it idle, then start pouring water into the carb, try not to get the venturi's wet, as this could get water in your bowls, which will stall you out and give you problems re-starting... you will get the feel of how much to pour in... you should see lots of white exhaust and hopefully some black/grey in the mixture... you're essentially steamcleaning the motor... ever blow a head gasket, and you've got water leaking into a cylinder, that cylinder is polished clean as new when you disassemble, while the rest are still black and sooty...

i don't know if you have 02's on your truck or not, water can cause problems with them i'm told, but i don't know for sure...

I had one of those carbed four banger forever ago I had to replace the carb right of the bat too. right after I put it on it would started idling really bad and sputtering. I didn't know shit about carbs so a ran into a friend of mines garage here in town he took one look at it and said you have a vacuum problem with the carb he ran inside grabed a wrench and came out reached in tightened a bolt for the carb and it stoped immeditly. Never had a problem after that. Hands down that was the best ford motor I ever owned. It out last the truck.

Ive got the 84 running a lot better didn't rebuild carb yet, still diesels a bit, and after a few trips through town i believe the valve guide seals are shot,Due to the fact that as vacuum pressure builds, and oil gets circulated, it starts to smoke. how ever it doesn't smoke for the fist two mins of run time, has good compression, so I'm not worried about rings. I have also noticed I'm gonna have to do,all the wheel bearings, and races, brake, pads, and maybe calipers, and deff needs an all new exhaust,

90% of the time, if valve seals are worn, you will get an initial puff of smoke upon startup, after sitting, as the oil leaks through there and down into the cylinder, but doesn't leak enough while running... if you get oil smoke while running i would say rings... do a compression test to find out for sure

alternately, start the truck and take off the fuel filler, if your rings are shot you will have blowby, and will be able to feel air coming out of the filler hole
