I swapped a 2.3 turbo head, header, and a '74 pinto 2.3 two-barrel intake onto my 2.0 ranger. With a holley 350, the truck runs like a race engine- no low end power, but huge top end power. there seems to be a small "hole" in the fuel delivery- off idle, the truck stumbles. I'm assuming this is because it is overcarbed, but is there any way to tune this out? Was thinking the accelerator pump shot is too small, but I also feel that's unlikely. Perhaps it shoots too much fuel- but it has the smallest accelerator pump cam you can get in it. Trial and error is maybe the only way to find out, eh?
Also, what about timing? would the engine like some more timing? It's set stock right now, but was thinking of advancing it a few degrees to see what happens.
I've been trying to rig up a motorcraft 2 barrel, but they just don't seal right with the carb spacer I have on there. Have another one on the way, I feel like the motorcraft carb is a better choice as it is smaller.
Had to make my own throttle bracket, but it looks hacked. Saw on kit on summit- was thinking about that option. Has anyone had to deal with this before? If so, what were your solutions?
Sorry for the long winded post. I'd buy you all beers if I could afford it. Thanks in advance. :icon_cheers:

You will have to work on the carb some to get the stumble out. Look into the link in my signature, plenty of info.

RangerusDangerus, what cam are you running? I normally run about 15 degrees initial advance and have yet to encounter any ping, but that is with a pretty mean cam and stock compression. I am running a Holley 350, and though a little cold blooded, once warm my motor generally does not stumble or bog under any condition. If you don't mind welding a bung into your exhaust, this- link- could be helpful to you. I have one and it has definitely saved me some trial and error. As long as your throttle cable bracket is safe I would stick with it. I am running a Lokar cable and a bracket I made out of a couple pieces of scrap steel I bent and welded up. It is far from beautiful, but I painted it black and it isn't too conspicuous.

Kenneth, that post you linked to is a great read.

Upnsmoke, running the stock cam- The head is from a 1986 SVO Mustang. I was surprised to see it there, and I would have grabbed the turbo too if it hadn't already been picked. I have given much thought to camming it. Was looking at a comp cam- this is till going to be a street motor, so I don't want to get too mean, but I would like to upgrade at some point in time.
That A/F monitor is a sweet thing to have- definitley in the future.
Also, I'm running a black accelerator pump cam in the first position- according to the holley book I have, it's an 18cc shot. Is this too little?
Really appreciate your help guys. :headbang:

Hey guys, I'm having a hell of a time getting the carb spacer to seal to the manifold. A few thoughts have crossed my mind:
1. The intake manifold sealing surface is uneven- at all possible?
2. The bottom gasket is soaked with fuel- Assuming a bad seal to the intake, though I've not seen this before, and it only started doing it after I tried to install the motorcraft carb.
3.The carb spacer has two holes, and the intake manifold has an open plenum- would this cause a sealing issue?
Any thoughts/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :icon_thumby:

maybe

intake COULD be warped use a small level or straight edge with a feeler gauge .I dont think the holes n the spacer should matter.Sounds to me like the float level is off to high:dunno:

Timimg issue

Back in the day when I autocrossed my almost new '72 Pinto with the 2.0, I used a vacuum guage to advance the timing to the highest vacuum and then back it off just a little. I was running stock class but had put a Racer Walsh 'Dyno-tune' kit in it. Bigger jets in the Holley Weber 2 barrel and lighter advance springs in the distributor. I removed and plugged the deacceleration system. That 2.0 would run!! It would outrun a 350 Camaro to 30 miles an hour and chirp the B60/13 tires hitting 3rd gear. That motor saw 8000 RPM more than I can remember but was dead-on reliable. So much for the memory walk. Don't know if the same timing method will work for you but it worked great for me.
