hey guys

so how bad is it to weld the spider gears on my truck..i have no money for a locker right now..
thanks
ryan doyle

it all depends on your toloeration levels. I rode in an s10 that was welded and it drove me nuts, but the owner said it didnt bother him. its just a lil bit rougher in yurns and you have to be pretty careful in the wet as to not make it swap ends.

its my daily driver..im 17 years old so i dont think it will bother me to much.. any other opinions?

I've been driving around for the past 2 years with a welded rear... it wears out the tires much faster then it did before... Other the fact that it screeches around every turn and having to take turns a bit wider, i wouldnt say its all that bad...

i wouldnt do it. on a dd maybe the front but not the rear. is your truck 4wd? if so weld the front spiders you will be surprised how well it does off road with the front welded and you can leave one hub unlocked so it still street friendly

wouldn't recommend this one myself...

a welded rear isn't too bad on a light truck. only reason i have't done it myself is the whole tire wear issue. i will do it in a couple months though...

A Lock-Rite's only like $250. I think it would cost less in the end than tire wear or hitting mail boxes in the winter.

^^^ why wouldn't you recommend that?

because it kills your turning radius on the trail, and doubles the stress on the stock carrier. aftermarket lockers are much much stronger than the factory carrier. it can be done and it will work, but the additional stress wears components faster. it's a pain getting out and unlocking a hub on every tight corner.

it can be done, but i'm not a fan of it

i would recommend welding the front instead of the rear esp on a dd.
