got this chattering/ticking/knocking noise that i have secluded to the transmission. here is the info:
1995 ranger 2.3L 2wd reg cab short box 5spd transmission. original clutch and transmission gears, regular transmission flushes (i'm the second owner), no previous towing..the sound was audible before i bought it.

clutch engagement is good; pedal feels good as well. no problems shifting. here is the weird thing: it only happens when the tranny is in neutral and the clutch pedal out (not pressed down). wonder what the hell it is? :icon_confused:

Mine does it too. If I push in the clutch it goes away. Exact same situation is yours.

I always just chocked it up to the gears spinning inside the gearbox, and that was it. Didn't really sound like a pilot bearing. I just check the fluid regularly.
