Weird noise

I have a 4.0 that has about 3k or 4k on it. It developed a ticking noise, so I put a quart of Marvel Mystery oil in it. Then the noise went away. I'm guessing it was a collapsed lifter. Then a noise came back, but upon examination with a screw driver to the valve cover it was not coming from the top of my motor. I just drove on figuring it was in my transmission or clutch because the sound was coming from the bottom of my motor/truck. Then I was driving the other day and my motor made a loud POP noise, then a zing, and tried to die on me. I'm guessing it has something to do with my manifolds because now there's a horrible exhaust leak. Any ideas on what it could be?

Sounds like the exhaust manifold cracked. It expands and contracts with the heat. With everything stone cold? Start 'er up and feel around the exhaust area until you feel the heat/air blast. Heck, if it's bad enough? You might be able to see a crack. The trying to die on you part? A big sudden exhaust leak before the O2 sensor would kick the system hard "Lean"...Maybe not enough to trip a CEL..But it might be enough to run it really rich with the mixture.

Not saying this is it...but it's worth a look. Be super careful when checking for that exhaust leak...don't want to read about you getting burned.
