weird engine noise advice needed PLZ!

so I haven't been online for a while, and a few days ago I changed my oil, and forgot about seafoaming it. so before my next oil change I will definately seafoam it :icon_thumby:

You can run it through the brake booster vacuum hose without having to change the oil though. go to youtube.com plenty of vids on there showing how to do it.

So I just finished Seafoaming the truck. I used around a half a bottle through the vacuum hose. I'm confused because it only puffed a tiny bit of smoke at the beginning. I let it sit for a little while and started it up-- no smoke, and no smoke for the ten miles I drove to flush it all out. I didn't notice an improvement in the noise at all. In fact, I can now hear a ticking sound.
Did I do something wrong??

Also, when I started the truck with the brake booster line off the engine couldn't stay on unless someone was giving it throttle. Is this Normal?

when i did it i put half a can in with it running and then shut it off for ten minutes. mine smoked like crazy when I started it back up.

Thats exactly what I did haha. But mine is a pretty low mileage truck for the year so maybe thats why it didn't smoke?

probably why. the smoke is caused from the carbon being removed so if you don't have much carbon it won't smoke that much.

I once had a faint tick sound on a 91 ranger. A month later my timing belt broke. Replaced the timing belt and the tick was gone.
Might not be the problem, thought id share.

To find an exhaust leat take a piece of vacuum line about three feet long and put one end up to your ear and search around all the gaskets and seals. You will hear a hissing if its a vacuum leak or a tick if it is a exhaust leak. The screwdriver works good on bearings, lifters, injectors and such. Just put your ear up to the handle of the screwdriver and search around the closer to the noise the louder it gets. Allways be careful of moving parts when sticking you head in a running engine and take off your tie. :-) It is kinna fun to listen to all the bearings front and back of the alternator, steering pump and go across the valve cover and you can hear each lifter or cam bering. My jeep made a similar noise and it was a cracked exhaust manifold the vacuum hose will isolate the fault for exhaust.

so i crawled under the truck with a screw driver and put it up to the oil pan, and i figured out that thats where the ticking noise is coming from. ideas?

check your ignition timing that can cause a tick or ping in high rpm
