Weird electrical issue

Not while starting unless it is wired to do so, in your ign switch you have certain contacts that stay energized during start like power for the ign coil and there are contacts the de-energize like your radio, cig lighter, and maybe a few other things, especially on newer cars. Now you can wire a radio to stay on during starting but that could end up damaging it. It may be time you do a main power wire harness make over. I recommend 4awg for everything.

Yea, the radio would always turn off when I turn the key over, but it used to come on whenever I had the key in and I turned it a couple clicks, but not to the starting position. Now it doesn't come on at all.

Is it aftermarket, check the fuse on the rear, check the red wire for power and the yellow wire for power, one shouldn't have power when the key is off. You may have a bad ign cylinder, I had to replace mine 4 years ago.

Do you have a voltmeter? Or a 12volt test light? , or a piece of wire? No where in this thread is a mention of battery voltage. Start with the cheap simple stuff. Get the battery checked/ charged/ replaced, whatever, first. :D

My 94 would not restart if it didnt start on the first crank then nothing after that, or sometimes nothing at all. It was the relay for the computer I think. I took it in and they replaced it. I dont think thats your problem, you can try tapping on it, its in the black box with the other relays under the hood. Good luck

Scrapper unfortunately this is the 2.8 motor, no relays under the hood here, only one master relay for ECM power in the passenger kick panel.. Sitting battery voltage would be a good thing.

Yep, no relays here!

The radio is aftermarket. That being said, I'll tackle that after I get the truck starting again lol.

I took out the battery and charged it overnight. Stuck it back and still no start :/

Would a bad ignition cylinder be able to start it with power hooked up?

Turned out it was a couple of things. First off the starter was bad... it was drawing too many amps. Secondly, there was a short in the line off the positive battery terminal post.

Going to go in today and finish fixing everything (Got dark on me last night)

I knew that starter was bad... Do you still want to by my almost new alternator? You should buy a set of 4awg jumper cables and wire loom that will fit over a single 4awg and rewrite All the big power leads... That's what I did...

How much do you want for it?

I'll think about it... I don't know if I want ANOTHER project right now.
