My AC has been acting up for the past two years and I am now tired of this.
Every time I turn on my Ranger, the AC works fine. It blows cold air with ease. But after 1-2 minutes, the compressor will click off and stop working. When I give it gas and keep it above 1200 RPMs, it will kick back in and work fine again, but it will turn off as soon as I let go. Any clues as to what it could be? The freeon pressure is fine and it has no leaks. I really don't have a problem with it since when the truck is moving, the AC works wonders, but these past couple of weeks, I've been stuck in Houston traffic and this "stops" and "go's" have made me sweat about a pound of sweat a day!
There is a silver valve to the bottom right of the compressor that is full of grease. It may be freeon, but like I said before, the freeon pressure is fine. It has had no leaks for the past year. I will try changing the valve and sensors that are greased to see if that helps, but I doubt it will make a difference.
Anyways, if anyone could point me in a direction, I would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to avoid paying a mechanic since I am a stereotypical college student low on cash.
