Weak Air Flow

Last winter my truck suddenly stopped blowing any air out of the vents and when I checked it out I noticed that the blower motor was not working. I went and bought a new blower motor and installed it which got the air moving again. Unfortunately now there is very little air coming out from the vents. All the positions (defrost, floor, mix, panel) do work and both hot and cold air are available.

When I get the truck moving at a decent speed the air starts to blow harder but it isn't anywhere near where it was before I replaced the blower motor. So I read through the forum and I'm still not sure what I need to do. From what I read these are the potential problems that I need to check.

Please feel free to add anything I have missed.

1. Check for a vacuum leak (apparently there is a plastic ball near the blower motor that tends to break off or crack?)

2. Check the resistor (although I imagine this would prevent the blower from working at all right?)

3. Check for blockages ( I did look when I had the blower motor out and it was clear but I will check again)

I am assuming I broke something when I replaced the blower motor and created a vacuum leak.

same problem

I got the same problem. I think its just weak or somthing. I was going to try and fit one off a newer f-150 on it . i wonder if anyone has evey done this.

First thing I'd check is the voltage going in to the blower motor; corroded cables/bad grounding could be causing your problem. As far as the plastic ball you mention, I think that thing is only present in 95+ models. Another thing to check is if when in the "panel" position you still get air through the floor vents. If that's the case, then you need to replace the vacuum motor that's right behind the glove box.

Make sure the polarity is correct going to the motor (fan spins the correct direction). I've actually seen where fan motors somehow got wired backwards before.
