water in the diff

I went on a bit of a wet run, but it was very innocent, water splashing, nothing exceptional, and i didnt get buried or even struggle. I get back, and I bring my truck to the shop to get the diffs and transfercase checked out, and the rear diff has water in it. wtf. what can I do to keep that vent from sucking in water, and is that normal, or should i get it checked out?

Simple answer is extend the vent.
 
extend it to between the cab and bed. very easy to do. Your front dif and transfer case, extend them to the firewall near the brake booster.

Believe it's 5/16" vacuum hose? Pull your rear breather and bring it to the autoparts store with you. Get a good amount of tube...like 15 or 20ft of it. Then get to work.
