Hello,

I have been having water enter my cab. I took this site's advice on seeing if there was buildup of dirt and debris in the cowl. There was a lot of it! Well that solved half of the problem. The padding stuff on the firewall inside the cab is not wet anymore. However, the floor is soaked again! It isn't soaked near the firewall, but rather in the middle of the floor.

So what should I check guys, heater core? It was just replaced 6 months ago.

Thanks

Some of the older trucks leak around the cowl area due to rust, but I'm not really sure where to tell you to look because I've heard about this on the site, but not seen it myself. T

he A/C water can leak on the floor if you are running it (defrost) and the drain line is stopped up.

If you have a third brake light (I think that was only on the newer years) they can crack and leak through there also.

You may want to take the carpet out, and have someone else run a water hose all over the truck while you sit inside with a strong light- that's probably your best bet for finding the leak.

I guess I will give a little update.

When I got back from the store I decided to see if the floor was wet, and sure enough, it was. It was hot as well. This leads me to believe it is the heater core, right? Except it didn't really smell like coolant.

I took the heater core panel off today to see if it was wet. It wasn't, but the truck hasn't been driven for a few days.

So what should I do?

My truck was rusted out on the passengerside , just infront of where your feet set. It looked like 2 panels met there. There was a couple 2" holes and it would soak the passengerside carpet.

You might want to take the carpet out to look for any holes and give it some dry time.

Given where you live the rusted floor sounds likely. My BII did the same thing and someone suggested checking the rain gutters for leaks. Found the sealant used to seal the roof had cracked and in some places fallen out letting water run in. Resealed the seams and leak was gone.

I should have added this but the roads were dry that day.

I pulled the carpet up and it was soaked with water. Padding is a little moldy. Where can I find replacement carpet/padding? I don't want to spend a lot of money, so I would like rolled carpet. I also do not want to buy online.

Thanks

well....good luck. All I can suggest is pressure wash your old carpet and let it dry.

and this is probably your problem..

It was hot because your exhaust is right underneath that spot.

Well how long does it take to get the dash out enough to repair the rust? And how can I repair it without welding a new piece of sheet metal on the spot?

Tearing the dash out is not too difficult as I think I mentioned before...repairing the holes in the cab should be done with properly welded and painted pieces if necessary or you'll end up with the same problem...but maybe not for a few years...

Yours might not be too bad, or may be leaking from a seam as some others have found...since it doesn't smell like anti-freeze you've probably got a leak...but there is no way to know till you start taking it apart and discovering where the water is coming in though...unfortunately...
