I need input. I was planning on using a Warn 8274 winch on my new crawler. I knew from the get go that it was big. I did a quick mock up tonight and it seems like it will be an approach angle killer. I can maybe move it upwards some but becomes harder to brace since it mounts from there front.

I’m not totally stuck on using this winch, I would be fine putting it on my car trailer and putting the Badland 12k that’s on the trailer on this rig. I think that would save me at least 6” of front length and be a lot more compact/easy to mount.

The old Warn is just so cool but I feel like I am going to regret using it here.

Thoughts? Talk me on or off the ledge…

That Warn is really cool. Little too cool for a car trailer winch but yeah, that does put a hurting on approach angle. Trailmater is using those for rear winches these days because you have more room back there on pickups and such

Those things are worth too much to put on a trailer...

That's the gold standard in winches, in my opinion. But, I agree it's a killer out in front of that truck. For the number of times I've had to use my winch, I put the emphasis on my approach angle.

Maybe I am better off just selling it and buying another winch for the car trailer. I agree it is way too good for a trailer (but I already own it and have no other use for it...) It's actually a factory Jeep winch and has a Chrysler tag on it. I am sure I could easily get $1000+ for it. It's kinda beat up but works great and "gold standard of winches" is absolutely correct.

I slept on it last night and decided that I am going to use the Badland 12k winch instead unless someone comes up with a really good reason to plug on before 5:00 this evening. The approach angle problem is going to bother me forever.

Just a generic one goes for stupid money, a regular Jeep one if you could find a guy restoring a Wagoneer or the like should pull pretty good money.

People go nuts restoring Warn winches too.
