warm up procedures

in the winter i might wait a minute or so but never longer than that

In my 2.9, I let her run untill the ticking stops, about 20 seconds.

When it's cold out (like below 20 degrees), I will warm up just for the sake of having heat. Otherwise, I get in and I am out.

I wouldn't let it go though if you say you're having trans problems. Sometimes it can be a not as expensive fix as opposed to a much more if you can get it fixed in time. When was the last time the transmission was serviced?

Pete

i just did a flush on it about 3 weeks ago thats about all ive done i and i had to replace a driveshaft input seal on it a couple weeks prior to that

Get in, start up & drive.

I do try to refrain from laying into the throttle until it's warmed up though (about 2-4 minutes of driving, depending on how cold out it is).

:icon_thumby: I take it pretty easy until my truck is at normal operating temp. Basically I baby it for the first few minutes. The coldest it gets at night in the winter is around 30* F once or twice a year. So I pretty much let my easy driving warm it up.

i was curious how other people warm up there cars
i usually let it idle on its own for awhile which is arond 1300 rpm then crank it up to 2k keep it there for awhile let it go down to 1500 keep it there for awhile let it idle on its own and i repeat that for about 8 minutes till its idleing at 1k

little much?

no during the cousre of this process i would say its only 4min and in usually trying to find a song on my stereo

hey dude, if your tranny is acting funny shifting when it is cold, try this...drop 1 quart of trnny fluid and replace it with LUCAS transmission fluid. i have a stock tranny with over 215000 on it, is slammed second gear most everytime when cold. after switching that 1 quart out and a little driving, no more funny shifting, or slamming into gears. try that out, should work for you. and sorry to be on the bandwagon here with other folks. but you really shouldnt idle anymore than two minutes. all warming up is for is warming up the sensors and getting crank case oil pressure and trans pressure up. after that, you are killing gas mileage and causing unneeded wear to the motor. just my .02 but try the lucas oil, its some good stuff!!!

Or how about fixing the problem? Lucas is junk and just a band aid... If there is something wrong with your transmission you should fix it instead of just throwing some gunk in there to cover up the problem...

im getting it serviced tommorow agian just cause i can (i know the guys and they let me use there transmisson flush for free) so ill see how it runs after that

Don't use the flush machine... Drop the pan, change the filter, and replace what fluid is in the pan with fresh...

Warm it up in dead of Winter for maybe 5 mins, 10 above and truck sits outside. Other than that, like been said, just jump in and go.

Why not flush it and change it all rather than just 3 qts?
